I'm in no way an avid fan of MS. I curse its foibles every day. I learned multivalue databases on command-line Unix boxes years ago. Our company moves to a Windows solution and what do you do?

The features that make Windows machines remotely manageable are some the same features that make them susceptible to the crap that doesn't affect other os's. It's a trade-off.

I used to teach my son about Windows and computers but not anymore. He's got a fresh young mind and has since built his own Linux distribution for his own computer and he loves it.

Me, I gotta whore the Microsoft environment cuz it pays the bills.

And it buys nitro stuff too!

Sharing different opinions is what RCNT is all about. I am a I.T. Manager of a Insurance Brokerage Firm to answer your question, but I am a serious gamer and home user also. I love talking shop keep it going it's a great debate.

Was that a PICK database? one of my boxes that house all the data of the insurance policies is running a PICK data base running AIX. It's fun to play on, but is way old school. We are looking into IBM's Universe multi value database and it utilizes XML technology. XML is just another way MS is changing our industry.

As long as we can discuss this and no one gets pissy I will talk tiil the Duratrax parts arrive. Bumped a tree bout an hour ago at 3/4 trottle. Removed the front suspension nicely. Truly MS is a good system and i am partial to less monopolistic software companies.
I haven't been into the IT side of computers but wish my career
choices would have been better. Had the chance and blew it,now up to the eyes in debt. haha.

Yeah, it IS a Pick database. I said Unix because I didn't think anyone would know what Pick was.

Our dispatch system's been across four different platforms since I've been at the company. The first three platforms were Pick OS's when Pick made OS's which they don't do anymore. Raining Data bought the rights to the database and now they market it under the name D3 made for Unix, SCO, NT, AIX and others.

(edit... One thing nice about keeping the monopolistic giant on your good side is that they send you some bitchin' stuff. This is a free copy of Office 2003 Professional and OneNote.)

I kinda wish the 2003 office suite had FrontPage but it doesn't.

the muti-valued unix based gave it away to me, but I use it so I guess I know.
