Hows everyone doing? My name is Bill, I live in Alberta, Canada. I have owned two Revos for about four years, and now I would like to get into rockcrawlers. After doing a little bit of research I decided to order a Axial Scorpion ARTR. I'm not into competing, mostly because there is nothing like that where I live. Anyways I am on here hoping the experienced guys on here can help me complete my crawler. I have zero knowledge as far as electronics go, and I dont want to upgrade if I dont have to down the road. So let er fly.

i hear ya, get whats best at first and never look back lol....if you get a artr you will need the following as far as electronics go....

a sidewinder esc

a CC bec

a 35, 45, or 55t motor. i prefer 45t, they have good wheel speed but still have plenty of torque.

a high torque servo....these will depend on how much you want to spend. for a cheaper one that works pretty good you can go with this

or if you want to spend more and get a bad ass servo,

you can get a servo with more torque but they are alot more and 333oz of torque will do great!!!

now with the sidewinder esc, you can run nimh batteries or up to 3s lipo....

heres a nice saddle pack of nimh

or 3s lipo (way better choice imo) you get a smaller, lighter footprint, more voltage and killer run times.

do you already have a radio and receiver? about any am/fm radio will work but when you can afford it i would recomend a spektrum dx3 or dx3r....they are pricey though but well worth it.

hope this helps, you can always pm me also if you need too.

oh, and a pinion...

and a link for your sidewinder...you can program it manually but you will miss out on all the bad ass features of it...you will need it to program you bec too.

Awesome slowngreen. Thanks for the speedy reply, but I have a couple questions. What does BEC stand for, and whats the pinion for?

the pinion goes on the motor and thats what turns the spur gear on the tranny and makes it go....the bec is a programmable dealy that you program to 6v or even alittle higher if you want and it supplies the servo with the needed 6v of power, without it the servo is only gonna get like 5.3 i think volts from the esc and if you are trying to turn against a rock and drive at the same time it will cut out.....will piss you off FAST!!!! lol...

Yeah what SNG said, but I will add one thing, the ARTR comes with a 14 tooth pinion, you will only need a pinion gear if you want to change from the stock gearing or do what I did and strip out the set screw hole.:D

Sorry, but what do you mean stip? And why?

i think he meant, strip out the screw hole lol, its easy to do...

a 14t isnt bad but I've tried 14,13,12, and 11's on 35, 45, and 55t all with 3s lipo and just prefered it with 12 but this is where a personal preferance will come in....

Sorry for the noob questions, but why strip out the set screw hole?

he was being sarcastic......

This is just an FYI before you go spend money on weights, check with tire shops in your area, I did and between the two I have been to I have been given over 50oz. of stick on weights for free, here is an example of how you use them in your wheels...

and my stock wheels

the gereral rule of thumb is you run about half of how ever much weight you run in the front wheels in the rear, so if you were to run 8oz per front wheel then you would run 4oz per rear wheel, but this is also one of those personal preference things, just like ride heght, tire selection, tire foams just to name a few, you have to see what works for you.
