Ok a quick one for you guys. When I hit the brakes hard I get a clicking noise from the maxx.

Any ideas on what it is? Sounds like plastic tabs, kinda like what anoying kids used to put in their bike spokes, but plastic on plastic.

It's also almost costant when I am in reverse.

It could be a primary gear and an output gear that are almost worn out. Does the clicking sound seem to keep pass (I mean pace) with the engine RPMs, like during acceleration too?

Nope, not a click one. COuld it be that my slipper is too tight? Causing something to give in the tranny rather than slip the slipper?

Sorry lykan, I'm not too familiar with stock setup. I got mine off a guy in Vagas, so I've dealt very little with plastic drive-shafts, reverse gearing, stock brakes, etc.

What happens if you engage breaks and push forward by hand? Maybe you can pin-point the sound to the trans or maybe a diff.

Ah hey don;t be sorry Heh, I apprecoiate all the help I can get, you're right I should hold it by hand and listen to it as it rolls.

Ok i located it, front diff is clicking.. Without ripping it apart anyone have any clues as to what I am in for?

Another question as well. Do they make better diffs to stuff in there (silly of course they do). I'll be specific. Do they make a decent drop in diff (no assembly required), that holds up a bit better.

Ha, I'm full of 'em. I got my maxx used How long will a stock diff last if I just replace it with a $15 stock one. If a upgraded one is going to break too, I would just as soon stick with breakable cheap parts than spendy ones.

Sorry for all the curiosity I read everything I can, but I am still a maxx newbie.

Sounds like the diff is getting ready to go. You can replace the gears with better ones. I believe they have metal ones called spider gears that are supposed to be goo sh!t. Not to sure the price but was told it is a good investment.

yes if it happens when you apply the brakes it cannot be from inside the tranny..it is from the diffs. try some alumunim diff cases with maxximizer/kippster cups. how much fuel has gone thru the drivetrain..and how much power are you forcing thru it? if you are stock powerd and have alot of miles on the truck..you can prob just get away with a all stock rebuild.

Its got a stock motor. I have seen new completely built stock diffs for $15 maybe thats the way to go.

I would do some research on the cost of new diffs and the nice gears to put in them, might not be much difference price wise.

I think's it's about $52 bucks for aluminum diff cups from maxximizer.

$52 wow, four of those, and I can buy a used maxx LOL. I might go with stock or buy a couple of used stock maxx's for parts LOL!

Actually if the end up bullet proof it might be worth the investment... you know sticker shock lol. Then again I think I've seen em more expensive too.

yeah, they're a little pricey, but with my .21 i went through the stock plastic cups pretty quick. I consider it an investment for saving time. rebuilding a diff sucks!

Now that wuld be nice I think I have a replacment going to check now
