I bought a Duratrax Evader for my daughter about a year ago. Its all stock. I've seen people say i can't go lower than a 20 turn motor. another says any 19-20 turn motor would be a good improvement over the stock motor, and still others say the stock motor is a 20 turn motor. what would be a good upgrade. i am most likely going to upgrade to a 7 cell battery. would it be better to go brush-less and do i need anything other than a different speed controller.

How fast are you wanting to go? If you went brushless you would need the motor and ESC as you stated. There is not a lot of difference between a 19 and 20 turn really. Not a lot of gain. One thing on the Evader though the front end is really weak at the connection point where the front end connects to the main chassis. I could not keep from breaking those. I would try to find something to enforce it. I used a old skid plate from another rc. Now it is pretty tough. You can pick up a decent brushless system for about $100 that will work for that.

Another option that's on the cheap side is Traxxas' Xl5/12t setup. It would be a big improvement over stock and the Xl5 esc can handle 8 cell packs. It's water resistant as well. I've seen the esc/motor combo for as low as $50 on ebay.

the funny thing is we both have nittro cars now, but if my wife buys a new toaster I'm already wondering if I can get it to make toast faster. I "hopped " up a riding mower when i was young just cause I could. I'll probably end up going brushless. I've also heard about the new Lithium batteries. the run time is supposed to be longer and instead of gradualy getting slower they stay fast until the last 15 minutes and then drop off fast. Is that correct or am I lost again.

Hey Metalhead CFH

Yeah, lipos deliver their power over a more consistent curve. They're way more "punchy" as well. You just have to make sure that they are never over or under charged, and that the individual cells stay balanced. I wouldn't suggest a brushless setup for an Evader. They're more of an entry level rig and not really designed for that much power. It may cause you more problems than it's worth. My old Rustler, with an xl5/12t Titian would approach 50mph with an 8 cell Tenergy 4200mah pack. This was hard on the motor, due to gearing it so high. A quality 7 cell pack running through the xl5/12t would motivate that Evader without destroying the drivetrain I believe. EDIT: "Aimed at you".:)

ok so that crap about not going lower than a 20t is just that.....crap. what kind of run times were you getting with that set-up
