Very cool thread.

I am a Lab Tech with Airgas. Basically, I analyze pure and mixed gases to verify that they meet specifications. At work I sometimes pretend it's just a job but I actually enjoy it a lot. Quality control suits my nature so it's a good fit for me. I'm very precise and sometimes very anal about my hobbies so it works out well that my professional position requires attributes that come natural to me anyways.

Soooo......you're like.....Hank Hill????

I'm a doctor of Audiology. I specialize in hearing disorders, balance disorders and work closely with Ear, Nose and Throat specialists to assist patients with hearing loss and ear diseases. Sounds glamorous, huh? So all you crazy kids with your 1000 watt stereos will be keeping me employed well into my 70's. You say iPod. I say Job Security.

I am a jet engine mechanic on the HH-60 helicopter for a Medi-vac/CSAR (combat search and rescue) unit in Okinawa Japan......but now due to being old and crusty I am office bound.....yelling at people for doing stupid stuff, writing personnel reports, award packages.....all the fun, rewarding work. But the biggest bonus is I get to set my own work hours every day.....long, super long....or oh heck I'll just sleep here tonight....good times:yes:

i work for Lockheed martin. as most of you know my company builds much of the hardware our military uses as well as some commercial air liners.

the section i work for does subcontract work for NASA. we have many contracts based in the houston area out of Johnson space center.

cargo: basically they pack the shuttle. build mount brackets, hardware, package the delicate stuff in foam and built parts of the space station

msoc: is mission systems operations control. they are the behind the scenes of mission control. we handle all the audio and video feeds and also do mission support. we also have programmers that support the software that keeps track of everything going up and down. you have to track and document every bit of hardware, food, and even trash for weight reasons.

bioastronomics: they design some of the experiments that go on inside the shuttle and space station

decal: just like it sounds, we make all the aluminum decals you see labeling the food, wires, knobs, switches, and whatnot.

and the big one CEV: we are building the new capsual that will take us back to the moon and eventually to mars.

i see astronauts daily and work with many people who have been into space, or designed parts and hardware that is in space now.

i also have security clearance to get into building 30 which is where mission control is located. (houston we have a problem).

most of you hear about the shuttle launching or landing and think "cool". my whole building comes to a standstill when either of these is going on. we all watch the events on edge. its always a relief when its over... lol

i am IT and i support cargo, decal, and the machines we have at NASA. all together i support about 300 people by myself.

phew. right over my head with that one :( Sorry, not familiar. Explain?

Hank Hill is a cartoon character that sells propane gas and is rather obsessed with it also. The name of the Cartoon is King of the Hill. Hmmm, wonder if anyone here matches up with Bobby Hill? Oh lord that would be scary!

yeah, I'm familiar with the character and show but wasn't familiar with the tie to gases. Thanks guys :)

I run a commercial sand quarry on about 600 acres. We have 5 different types of yellow sand and I am the production front end loader operator and oversee production and quality control, as well as deal with the customers. I used to operate roadtrains local and interstate but started sand mining to keep me home at night,
Then I got divorced....... Go figure.
Yes I do run my Nitro M/Ts out there and its a great place for the 1/5th. (smartech bigfoot)

I run some bad ass heavy equipment:

And I'm also a part time astronaut for NASA. =devil

Odd, everything looks fine to me. Have you tried greasing the wheel bearings?

One of the hinge pins fell out of the bulkhead, a new e-clip and you'll be back on the road in no time. Little bit of wax will buff out them scratches.

If you've ever watched the television show for children called Lazytown, I'm the pirate

I work in a supermarket as a butcher. I'm responsible for production of salamis, sausages and all smoked goods. Much better stuff than what the big places churns out.

Before I started working there 2 years ago they made almost nothing like that, and now I can hardly keep up. Next month we are getting one more man, so I'll get more time to do what I do best. :)

You say iPod. I say Job Security.

I just got a new pair of Bose headphones, and I know there making me deff but its just so friging clear and there is no limit on how loud they will go lol.

I am a 21 year old ASE certified Chrysler service technician. I love working on cars but don't really care for working in a dealership. I would like to work for a race team eventually.

I'm a machinist for a big medical co. I am stuck in the CNC department because that was the only dayshift opening. Would love to get back to the manual stuff.
