:hehe: :hehe: I just got my T-Maxx used and Its my first nitro truck anyway the truck wouldnt move when I first got it so I took the tranny apart and found out the previous owner had it apart at one time and installed one of the gears upside down It works fine now anyway it is completly dry and there where a small amount of plastic paricals but all the gears are still in good shape, so I was wondering what I shoud use in it and how much would be recomended. I was thinking of using some sort of automotive lubricant like prolong but wasn't sure if that would harm any of the plastic parts any help would be great so far I have recieve a ton of help from this website I had no clue about the truck and with the help I have recieved here I had it tearizing my neighbor hood last night lol thanks everyone here!!!!!

I just use white grease. but if u go to your LHS their bound to have some sort of grease u can use and if you do use grease dont pack it on just coat all the teeth with a good amount

White lithium grease. I wouldn't go to your LHS though. I don't know how much it would cost but I'm sure it's more expensive than necessary. You can get a tube of it at a home improvement store, like Lowe's or Home Depot for a few bucks. But unlike what you'd get at you're LHS you'll have enough grease to relube that tranny more often than you'll ever need.

grease the tranny gears? The one time I did that I had to get a new 2-speed 'cause it locked it up somehow. I used white lithium too.

if you dont go to your LHS then make sure the grease says safe on plastic

I can't imagine how the grease had anything to do with that.. unless you had it really caked in there. Like stated above, you only need to coat the gears slightly

doesn't green slime work real well?
I just picked up a tube to try it but have not got around to it yet.

I had that happen too and I did just lightly coat the gears..
Apparently when you run the snot of your car that grease liquifies and can run into that 2nd speed clutch...then when it solidifies it sticks the clutch good. I just heated it up w/ a heat gun and wiped it down, worked great after that....

That just seems kinda odd to me. I took a look at the tube of Grease that I have and it says it has a "dropping point" of 393 F. I assume "dropping point" is the temp at which it starts to break down or something, but still that temp is waaay out of reach for what those tranny go through

I never knew you had 2 lubricate the transmission.....I was told that you never put anything inside the gear box.

I saw that as well and don't see how it happened. but when I broke everything down to the bits and pieces it came down to the clutch being filled with lithium grease....I used campagnolo grease (bike stuff) and it's considered good $h!t....I stopped using any grease and just try to space metal gears to plastic ones as much as possible, you do still want something cheap to fail rather than a bunch of alum. or steel gears binding up and breaking or tearing your tranny housing up or blah blah blah you get the picture. I would rather spend $10 on a plastic gear and an hour or 2 rebuilding a tranny than spend $100 plus the same amount of time....
If I'm not mistaken the platic gears are impregnated w/ lubricant when they are made as well....
