WASP 26 & Picco Outlaw 26 easier tuning

for all you big block users Well I got some 30% Platinum Trinity fuel... I was reading on Team Orion site that using 30% is best & recommended for the .26 engines and make tuning easier... with the McCoy 9... SMOOTH... better than before... hums instead of the erratic idle

Here are the factory settings for the .26 engines

Here are the needle settings. High speed needle 4 1/2 turns out and low speed needle is 9 1/2 turns out

Plus the 30% nitro keeps the engine cooler

That is the same thing they are telling me. I sent an e-mail to team orion to verify and get any additional recomendations that they may have for 30% nitro content. it's a better deal than a new picco carb that's being pushed to get it to run smoothly on 20%.

ha ha StretchM!!!! I knew your SN looked familiar... I am SavageWASP26 on Team Orion Web forum... I believe Mark from Team Orion was the one who told me that.. but today was my 2nd tank on the 30% and TUNING was EASIER!!!! (had to re tune due to the fall weather) and the power is amazing... plus I am running on the BIG Mayhem tires and off the line I flipped the truck, plus I have aluminum arms and my truck is heavy I took it to my LHS and was killing those new RTR 25/SS.. cause my LHS was ordering 5 of those OFNA Carbs with adaptors.. but that is already like $110... when getting 30% is only $ 2 more than a gallon of 20%... plus it would make sense for Big Block pusing 2.7 HP to use 30%.. I am at 230 -240 degrees hard running... where as before on the 20% I was at 260 - 300 degrees..

plus I put my stock exhaust back.. the CVEC dual pipe are not good for the .26 engines... so now I have to research on which is the best pipe for our engines

so that was your e-mail, thanks.

i'll save you the reseach, #069 ofna/picco is the recomended pipe by ofna's tech support. (you may have a problem fitting it on your maxx because of the length). it's the same one that they got the best performance out of and the same one that trinity used to test the sirio .27. my question that i posted on orion's site and that no one has fully answered,...does picco recomend that we re-shim the head for better performance if we plan to increase the nitro content to 30%?

correcton....you don't have a maxx and from the look of the savage, no problem with the length of the pipe.

Got and e-mail back from Orion regarding the 30% nitro content and head shim question for the Picco .26, here's the reponse:

Yes, you should consider adding a 1/10th mm shim on your 26.

FYI

I know this an old thread but did adding the shim work?

i run my wasp .26 with an O.S. A5 glow plug and 30% trinity monster hp fuel on a cheapo hot bodies pipe, and for me this combo idles super smooth and has more power than i need at about 220 degrees. factory shims, running my carb with the black low speed needle.

You can run it both ways. Most poeple do not add a shim.

I was running o'donnels 30% for about 6 gallons, and I tried a switch to 25% Monster HP cause I was going thru gp's like every two tanks. at first there was a huge power loss, but after a while of tweaking the needles, the power is back and the temps are low. Plus I haven't had to change the plug cause it is gone south, but I think it is good habit to change them after every gallon, so I do. Has anyone else had probs w/ blowing gp's? I might chaulk it up to the o'donnels fuel and switch to 30% Monster HP, cause i did like the power, but it wasn't worth the $$ to have to replace the plugs so often.

you can probibly still use odonnel fuel, but adding the head shim will help stop your gp's from going out. I've tried a lot of different fuels and like odonnels 30% race and trinitys platinum 30% the best. they tune easily, make good power even running a little rich, and keep temps low.

also make sure your using a cold glow plug, a OS A5, odonnel #99 or McCoy #9 should work for you.

so can a guy change from 25% back to 30% with not ruining the engine?? I read somewhere that once you switch down that you lose some pinch and that if you switch down you won't have good luck if you switch back.

Of course you can. No problems here, just retune it.
