Been using non traxxas batteries in my sledge for months now, with an ic5 to traxxas adaptor on the truck. Is it safe to use connector adaptor harness on 3s lipo in sledge, or would it be much better if I soldered on a traxxas plug to the battery? Truck seems to have plenty of power and long run times using adaptor

I mean it can work but for higher voltage applications (sledge on 6s) the adapters add heat as they add resistance to the whole circuit. Well depending how the quality is on the adapters.

I'd rather solder an IC5 on the esc side (2 of them if running in a series) but soldering a non Traxxas plug on a Traxxas esc voids the warranty just for reference.

I use adapters to convert my Traxxas battery to the 2 pin type and vice versa. I don’t have issues. Personally id just use the adaptors.

+1

Removing adapters and soldering matching connectors to batteries and ESCs not only removes a point of resistance, but also a point of failure which could lead to fire.

If anything, just solder an IC5 to the ESC. If you need to warranty the ESC, just solder the TRX plug back on before sending it in.

I will say this… If you’ve gone months now without needing to warranty the VXL-6s esc, id go buy a lottery ticket and not worry about needing to warranty it. Sounds like you managed to get a good one lol

Performance wise, it's always better to solder on the correct plug. but if the the adapter has been working and you don't feel like performance is lacking I wouldn't sweat it. I use adapters in my RC planes, because I have too many different brands, and I'm to lazy to solder all of those connectors.

Before retiring I worked on electronics for a living. Everything from submarines to critical medical gear. Well soldered connection is number one as mentioned. However, adapters can be used if you keep them clean, tight and corrosion free. A little dab of deox can help. Poorly done solder joints, loose or contaminated connection (even without adapters) lead to higher resistance which leads to heat, once the cycle starts it can get ugly, especially in higher current applications.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll just keep running it as is with the adaptors. Haven't seen any issues yet and adaptor connectors don't even get warm when I periodically check them. Wouldn't mind upgrading esc eventually, but I have the traxxas light kit that interfaces with esc, don't think it would work with another manufacturer esc. Also would probably lose telemetry function, but I could live without that feature.

Yeah, if theyre not even getting warm then you have no issues using them. :thumbs-up:
