Awesome :D Thanks Andy!

Hehe, HB recommended that we use 20% nitro, and that 30% is for advanced tuners. Oh well, if 30% works better, then 30% it is.

I don't believe that a motor in a car get as much air as a motor in a chopper, most choppers have a big shroud and cooling fan attached to the engine to keep it cool. I think that 100% synthetic lube might not be a good thing in the .46 motor becauce it is not in a chopper , it is in a truck with a small hole cut out from the front windshield for air. From what I have read synthetic lube is less tolerate of heat than caster which is why the car fuel mfg's mix caster in with their syn lube for a little added protection. The tower hobbies fuel is all syn if I purchased any of it I would get some racing caster oil to add to it just for added protection.

The only thing that I was told was that 30% nitro wildcat heli-fuel makes the truckzilla run good. I think he said that if tuned right, the temp ranged from 220F.-240F.

You've got a good point there, Nitrohead. I was thinking that the engine in helis operate at constantly high rpms, and so they need all the cooling they can get. But I think 1 or 2% castor shouldn't hurt. I've read an advertisement for Klotz car fuel, and they use 12% pure synthetic for torque, 12% syn/castor blend for RPM (and RPM is what I want)

Now I have a choice of getting the heli blend with 20% synthetic, or the car blend with 10% synthetic and 4% castor (that's what they have at the shop)

I think the truckzilla is a "low rever" (23,000) so I think that it shouldn't hurt the engine with pure synthetic lube. but then again it might turn more RPM's with the 30% nitro heli-fuel. See, now you've got me thinking too hard  LOL.

LOL, the shop that sells the different blends is 2 hours drive away, so I'd better make sure I get the right fuel first time.
Hmm, you're right that the zilla is a slow revver, which is why I hope that it'll rev a little higher if I put 30% nitro and a bit of castor.

Andy you are right the .46 is a low rev motor the fuel should work pretty good. I think I am going to buy some of the fuel now and try it out! But for a little extra protection I am going to add a few ounces of caster oil.

O, by the way, if any of you happen to see Red_Dog's movie of the savages jumping out of the 2nd story barn hay-loft, mine only had a bent stock roll-bar, and his has only a bent skid-plate, lol

lmao!!I have had two .46's from Hb the frist one Broke the Crankshaft. And i sent it into HB and they sent me a new motor For FREE!!And i am the process of breaking it in.I can tell the 2nd motor has way more poewer then the 1st one.And it is very easy to tune.I am runnig OD Fuel 20% and it is working GREAT!!This motor loves the SS pipe and the Clutch Shoes are a must to get also u should get a Motor Saver Air filter.I have had a Picco .26 before and that little .26 didn't have the speed or power of this .46.If u wanna Alot of power then get the .46.But if ya wanna race then get a .26.But i do both with the .46 and everyone always ask's me damn that motor is Crazy and Big.lol So i am very happy With HB.I don't think anyone should get this motor unsless if they know what they are doing like u gotta be able to tune it.Also i never have to lean this motor out to get power unlike the picco.Well thats just my 2Cents!lol

ALSO HB SAYS THE MOTOR IS NOT A HELI MOTOR THEY USED THE CASE OFF A .46 AND THEY PORTED IT FOR OFFROAD USE~!ALSO RUN A A3 GLOW PLUG WILL HELP ALOT!!!

Thanks for solving the mystery! The engine block is from a heli .46 but the porting has been changed for off road use!! I have been using 20% nitro without any problems too, but I have been wanting to try 30% .

well I'm glad I could help, the one 2 thank is Erwin, I just posted what he said. I had no clue about that untill he told me.(for those of u that don't know, Erwin is my LHS owner)

Overheating

Well i never have had a issue with the .46 running hot at all.The hottest it ever got was 260 leaned out.But also if i do start having overheating issues i already bought the Nova Racing Head for it just in case. But u also have to know how to tune the .46 which it is pretty easy.I have ran different glow plugs in this motor like a Mc59 A3 and a couple of A4 but this motor loves those A3 try them they will really help! Also Make Sure to pick up a SS pipe it helps so much!!Same with the Air Filter get a Motor Saver Air Filter!!I bought the motorsaver one and nailed the gas and on the 4 tank it was pulling wheelies!! well now i have the SS pipe and Nova Shoes and i can tell that both items are helping the motor get more power. Now i gotta send off my sero's to Hitec and get them fixed then buy a new radio box and fuel tank! Then i can really start driving it! out of all the motors i have had i like the .46 out of all of them i have had these motors:picco Oulaw (Was a pain to get running right)Gs .21 (best damn .21 i have used)S .25(No Power And runs Hot) .46 No problems with anything at all! Also don't screw around with the Mid Needle!!It can screw the whole tune over!Unless if u know what u are doing! And u really outa notice the motor still making more power after 1 gallon of fuel! Its freaking Crazy how this motor is after a gallon!!

I have heard that with syn. oil that the engine runs cooler, and with a syn/castor blend they run a little hotter. What I have heard that the castor oil is harder to burn off than the syn. oil. I also have talked to a HS owner, he said that the .46 motor likes to be running on the rich side of things. Never ask what percentage of fuel he used.

One thing to keep in mind is the higher the nitro content the cooler the engine will run.
I have ran as high as 50% fuel in my SS without any heat problems what so ever.
I have also found over the years that using higher nitro makes the engines run better and are easier to tune.
In our boats it is very common to use 50% and it seem the smaller motors like 60 -65% even more and no they don't wear out any faster than car motors.
Yes the engines are water cooled but lately many have been running the small 20 size outboards with 60% and air cooled.
So if you are having tuning, heat or performance problems and you are using the proper plug and head clearance maybe you just need a little higher nitro content and that is probably the reason that the motor is running better on the heli fuel as well.

Just a thought.
