so you got a longer run time on the 7 cell than with the stock motor?

O yeah.

On the track at my LHS I Ran about 20 min with the 12 turn and 7-cell 4600mah. With the brushless I got about 25-30. But like I said, I ran a few WOT passes in the Parking lot before so I might have gotten more. The track is small and only has one spot to go WOT and only for a short burst. On a larger track I would expect a lower run time, but still I am very satisfied.

If you decide to go lipo, or stay brushed and time your runs or use a low voltage alarm then I suggest getting a couple of these. My Rustler VXL is a beast on these, gets about 45 minutes run time on the track, a little less if I'm just out bashing hard on the throttle a lot. I bought two, and plan to order at least 4 more in the near future. The key to the lipo over NiMH is that the lipo will hold power until you hit a soft voltage cutoff.

Also, if you poke around you can get a balance charger on this same site dirt cheap.

Not one bit, I have two sitting right here, and everyone at my track uses them. Hobbycity is the best kept secret in radio control. The problem is that standard shipping can take a little time, but it's not that bad for the money. Me and a friend ordered 2, some low voltage alarms, and I got a balance adapter...rush shipping was like $35, we split it down the middle which made the deal worth it. We placed the order mid day on Monday, and the same week they came in Friday morning all the way from Hong Kong. Most have at least 4 on hand and they are proven time and time again as being the best battery for the money, and I'm running with guys using $129 lipos and see no difference at all.

HOLY CRAP :whhooo:, I know what my next mod will be.

If you do order them on the standard shipping, just know it's completely normal for them to wait in customs for a few days. Don't do like I did when we ordered like 10 brushless outrunners with speed controls and flip out thinking your shipment got seized.

I'm in no rush.. ordered 6..

What a steal!

Yes, they fit like a glove without any modifications.

You'll need the foam block that came with it for the 6-cell packs to make it secure obviously.

I've been looking at those for quite some time now. Also been looking at the 3s version too. The only reason I haven't ordered Is they are always on backorder and I don't know how quickly they re-stock. How quick would I expect to get them if 200+ are backordered ahead of me?

Also, I can't seam to find a Charger that will charge two lipos at once. Does anyone even make one?

One more quick ?? marauder, what kind of connector comes on those?

Now how does the math work on Lipos? What gives a 2s 4000mah lipo a 45 min run time w/cut off as compared to a 7-cell 4600mah Nimh's 25-30 min run time w/no cut off?

It's a generic deans ultra style plug. They're hit or miss, I replaced mine with a traxxas plug.

Not sure how quick they're back in stock, but the demand is very high on them now due to the race season. You can always ask customer service how quickly they will be back in stock, but I've never heard of a long wait on them and they're certainly worth the wait.

I've never charged more than one lipo at once, but I've seen it done. I'm sure someone here has done it that could fill you in.

It's all in my driving style, I've not raced the Rustler vxl yet, just practiced with it on the track. It's way overpowered for our track and it's handling characteristics out of the box so I was rarely more than 2/3 throttle. When I get out in tall grass or just bashing around with it it's run time drops noticeably, by maybe 10-15 minutes less than normal depending on outside temps.

okay I ordered 2 2s 4000mah Zippy's today.

I was wondering though, are these 3s Lipos good for the money? http://cgi.ebay.com/2pcs-RC-LAB-3800mAh-20C-11-1V-Li-Po-Lipo-Battery-Akkus_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a1Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a2Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2554ed2ed1QQitemZ160338620113QQptZRadioQ5fControlQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQQsalenotsupported

I'm not sure about them but they are rated at 15c and 20c burst and that's what the vellineon manual recommends. 3800mah... would that give me about 20mins of run time?

Marauder,

Have you or anyone you race with use these hard cased Zippy lipos in an 1/8th scale application? I ask because I ran at my local track last weekend and asked around about them. I could not get one racer to recommend them. There were 4 guys who had them puff on the track on their very first day out.

My sense tells me the packs will be fine in a low amp draw application like the Slash but their C rate is probably overrated like most of the cheap Chinese packs.

Nope, I don't see this pack being used in an 1/8th scale application. There are over 20 packs that see action in the slash class every weekend at our track without one reported incident. I'm sure there are a lot of factors that play into this though, but as you said the Slash isn't a high amp draw system so we're not really pushing the pack. For $27, you can't beat it. Most all of this junk comes from China anyway, can't expect much quality control. I'm running it in my Rustler VXL and it's amazing, still not sure I'm pushing the pack like a 1/8th scale application would. One other member of our club is running a soft sided blue wrap zippy in a 1/8th jammin e-truggy, I believe it's a 4s. He has no trouble out of his pack, but the losi esc gives him problems all the time w/thermal shutdown even with the fan and air holes in the body.

*EDIT - How long ago did that happen? They had issues with the cold solder in the cases coming undone in the first batch but that problem has since been resolved. This could possibly explain the issues they had with their packs. If that's the case, they could be easily repaired from what I've read on other forums.

The Traxxas VXL-3S Velineon System? Absolutely.

That's the same system in the Rustler VXL and it's working fine for me.
