tmaxx 3.3 vs 3.3 rustler

The rustler is fun on hardpack dirt and concrete but not so much in the grass and gravel. It gets hung up easily in grass and is very loose on the gravel. I have a T-maxx with an OS .21 max engine and a 2.5 rustler. The rustler sits on the shelf most of the time. I spend most of the time bashing around at the house and playing on MX tracks. The Tmaxx handles better due to a wider stance, can take bigger jumps, and is faster then the Rustler. And with the OS .21 engine the Tmaxx is faster.

I liked the Rustler before I had my Tmaxx.

just my $.02

The Rustler is only a 2.5, unless you have retro fitted it, and stock the Rusty will be faster, and all upgrades are available. I personally dont like the Tmaxx for jumping but I have one set up really soft with an RB 523 for racing and its unbelievable, but, like HD said, with an OS .21 good luck catching that.

How long the motor lasts is completely up to you. If you do a PROPER break in procedure, and you perform PROPER maintenance on a daily basis such as changing the air filter a lot while out bashing, running a high quality air and fuel filter, and unsing the proer after run procedures, your motor will last a REALLY long time if it's tuned correctly. However, not doing some of what I mentioned above could cause your engine to last only a few bash session.

The rustler and the T-Maxx are two completely different animals. The rustler is more of a 2WD stadium truck style race truck. The T-Maxx is a 4WD monster truck that's more oriented for bashing and handling rough terrain. The brand new 3.3 T-Maxx has a lot of improvements over the regular 3.3 T-Maxx, so keep that in mind when you make the purchase.

What are you going to be using this truck for? That would help a lot. If you like the idea of a rustler but you're going to be bashing it, you might consider a stampede. Very similar, but it's a monster truck style truck so it sits up higher than the Rustler and has some different characteristics like that.

I have seen a Rustler with a 3.3 clocked at 70mph, I'm sure it was geared for speed but that freaking fast! I have never seen a T-Maxx with any engine get close to that speed so IMO the Rustler will be faster.

IMO if you jump a MAxx over 10 high your asking for trouble... bulks, shock towers and chassis are at high risk.

If you don't mind the chassis smacking the ground when it lands the Rusty is a great jumper IMO.

You need to decide what you want, a Monster truck can go in rough terrain and the Rustler can't.

A nitro engine can last anywhere from a few tanks of fuel to 10+ gallons of fuel, it kinda fall under the poop happens category. If you do a proper break in and take care of it they will last a long time (don't ask how long) unless it has a defect.

If you want to do any type of off roading I would suggest a Savage

but how high can a rustler jump?

A rustler will jump as high as you make it jump, will it break no one can honestly answer that. You have to understand, there is no way to tell you exactly what any rc can do without breaking.

I won't get into best are strongest but I think anyone that has owned a Savage will say it's a tough truck. Something can break on a simple roll over or you can jump it 20 feet in the air and drive away with nothing broken.

It doesn't matter which rc you buy you will break it!

Just make sure that you land on all 4 wheels at the same time and you should be fine... unless you do some crazy jump.

One of the all time classics would be when Smaxxin was at my house bashing. It was his first time behind the wheel of a Baja 5b SS and he was loving it. We had a huge dirt pile I guess around 8 or 10 feet high with almost vertical sides. He was just finishing his sentence os "How well does this thing climb" as it was sailing through the air above our heads after hitting the dirt wide open. We learned then that it did pretty darn good and we bashed the hell out of it. We landed some of those jumps on the roof or the font end and it never had a hiccup, kept begging for more.
