Hello all,
I am glad to say I am getting a RTR version of the Axial Scorpion for Christmas and want to know everything, I have wanted one of these for a year now and am still lost on the best products. I know a 55t is the big rave so I am going to be purchasing one of them tomorrow, but what I am wondering is first does anyone know of a good site that shows step by step to cut the foam inserts on the tires? also I want this thing to flex like crazy, i keep hearing about this droop set up and softer springs.. Can anyone give me tips. Next I am going to roll with the saddlepacks and dont know if my ECS can handle a 8cell how would i tell that? Thanks for your help i know i sound ignorant but I am to this part of the RC world! :hehe:

welcome to the world of crawling

axails website says u can run up to a 10 cell

this is what u want rioght here great template
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3734&highlight=ultimate+tire+foams

its not always good to have to much fix u would want to limit your shocks to 4in. or get some losi rock crawler shock they are the best right now

a few other things to look into is some new tires the stock rtr tires suck
4 llink the uppers and get that ax10 color kit, update the links the rtr is plastic
some lead stick on weights helps alot, put them on your wheels

but u want to mount everything as low as u can for a much better COG

u could also check out rccrawlers.com for tons of good info

i hope this helps you

if you are gonna use the stock rtr axial esc i dont think it handles 8 cell, i may be wrong though. if you get softer springs and put them up front you will prolly like it, i wouldnt try droop until you get used to driving it sprung. and yeah with my first crawler i wanted alot of flex too be realized soon after that you can have too much, so the stock rtr setup has more than enuff imo. and yeah like rollinlow said, invest in new tires, if you can't afford new ones right off the bat then yours will work they just suck really bad.

i got a set of used panthers with stock losi foams for 20 shipped

hmm..

I live in Grand Forks North Dakota and our hobby store is getting sold out quickly sucks! there are no wheel weights.. they said to use pine box durby cars.. and what losi shocks would I use? the 1/10th scale with factory springs?.. I am getting the saddle packs talked about on the axial website and mounting them on the front axle... How bout motor wise.. I hear alot about 55t motors.. I want something with crazy amount of torque and low low gearing.. I want it to look scale you know? I hate when there so fast and jump around all over the rocks.. I did some research and seen like 75t motors and stuff are those like crazy torque?.. Thanks for all your help I feel like an idiot but I want to build the best crawler possible but keep it looking realistic!

55t is all u need or u can get a 60 integy i think
try this web site

holmeshobbies.com

55t would be okay. i wouldnt go with any thing higher. 45t's would be good too.

I have the 6 cell saddle packs on my AX10 with a 55t integy motor and while run time is pretty good it could use more wheel speed some times, I think I might have been happier with a 35 or 45 turn motor, but then my run time would have suffered, kind of a double edged sword, when I get a better ESC I plan on making them into 8 cell packs for increesed wheel speed, as for springs I like the stock axail blue firms in the rear with white softs in the front, you will also need to put a locker in the front axle, the RTR version is not locked in the front, I would also recomend picking up those tires from rollin, they are a great tires....

i love my 35t so much i think goin to put another:Dhint hint

check out holmeshobbies.com he makes some great crawler motor

one thing that really sucks about the rtr is the esc, imo, its really hard to control for low speeds, you have to be very soft on the trigger so i would start saving towards a new esc if i were you....try for a sidewinder or a mamba but if thats too much to spend now, you can get a cheaper esc that will be tons better than that axial.
and on the motor, Holmes makes great motors, i havent checked for a while but I'm pretty sure the 35t handwound is still out of stock... so for the money just get a Integy wich will be like $17 and a Novak wich is like $30....I've had better luck with the Integy's though.

and it keeps going..

Ok.. My buddy just gave me a servo for the rear steer kit.. he had it laying around so i figured i will take it and use it but dont have a three or two channel remote so they say you can Y the servo's.. Does this work good?.. also what springs would you suggest?.. I was looking for some soft springs so it flex's hard

well if you want just new springs then yeah get soft or ultra soft springs....I'm not sure on the rear steer situation as I've never had it but if you were to Y the servos they would both turn all the time wich imo would get really old really fast....you can get a modded tq3 for pretty cheap...i have one if your interested shoot me a pm. i have some soft springs laying here too.

Thanks!

You guys have been a huge help! I appreciate all your posts they gave me alot of information.. I am a little broke due to the holiday season but I will forsure shoot you a pm once i get some money and see if you still have those parts! Thanks again Merry Christmas!!

Grr!!!

Just got my axial rtr.. doesn't RUN!! I am very pissed off! this is stupid finally get one after a year of waiting and now I have to send it to Axial cause i think the ESC is shot.. I was gonna buy a new one but figure they better fix it ya know?..

that does suck man, but, instead of having to wait for them to fix it, if you can afford a new esc id do that cuz you will want to upgrade soon anyways cuz the stock axial esc sucks really bad.

the rooster will only do 2s lipo, if you are gonna spend the money you might as well do a Castle Sidewinder or Mamba max so you can run 3s. imo.

Yeah!!

I called axial told them my problem they said they rarely have an esc go bad so just try the crystals one more time. Well luckily i did.. that was the problem and its up and running now! i got the 55t motor and locked axles. I am in love with my crawler and can't wait till summer to take it outside..
