I'm thinking of buying a tmaxx or sportmaxx but i dont know which would hold up better where i live. my friend/neighbor had one but it was stolen and getting savage but want another truck incase friends come over so i can play tag with the trucks.

If your just using it to screw around with your buds, I would suggest the sportmaxx... Its faster... The only difference between the two, is one is 2wd & the other is 4wd w/2 speed tranny.

the tmaxx is faster (40is faster than 30 :ponder: ) and if you fell like upgrading a sportmaxx to a tmaxx later it wil ad up to costing more than just buying a tmaxx in the first place. you wont be disapointed  !

You can still buy a Savage and run it with the other one, you just have to be on different frequincies. The same holds true for the T maxxes. If you do go with the traxxas I say go all out for the T, the four wheel drive with handle any terrain much better. It will cost alot more to upgrade a Sport to a T in the long run. I say just spend the extra 50 - 75 bucks and get the T.

Good grief man, please leave a little more info! Why???????? Why would you just go with the T-Maxx???? I've read so many of your posts just like this one and they all make me feel like I just repeatedly slammed my head into the hitch of my truck.

Ok SavageSquirrel, if you're just looking for a backup/screw-around truck, I would go with the Sportmaxx. You'll save $80-$100. But, if you'd rather have 4wd, a 2spd tranny, and reverse, go with the T-Maxx, because it'd be cheaper to get it all from the get-go.

They are both the same truck minus 2spd, 4wd, and reverse. So technically there's more to go wrong with the T-Maxx, but they are made with all the same parts, so durability is almost identical.

I'm with GilbeQuick, both maxx trucks are similar in durabilty. The Only difference is handeling. AS said earlier you get 4WD compared to 2WD and you also have a 2 speed vs a 1 speed. I've heard gerat stuff about the sportmaxx, but i also have a t-maxx and i think it's and AWSOME truck. Can't beat the 4WD and the auto shift tranny.....

Sup dude, I'm with everyone that recos a T-maxx but I'll elaborate in detail as to WHY!!!!!

Yes, the Sportmaxx is faster then the T-maxx if you upgrade to the Two speed gears for the Tranny but not that much faster. Stock the T-maxx is faster then the Sportmaxx as it has a Two speed tranny (faster top end). As for the reverse, it's definitley nice to have if you drive your Maxx as much as I do (reverse is nice to have...I use to think of it as a novelty until I started driving in tight spaces where it got stuck allot...it's also fun to do doughnuts in reverse) and from what I've seen converting to the foward only doesn't do anything substantial or or even noticable for that matter. We radar clocked a T-maxx with the forward only coversion before and after and it didn't add any MPH to the top speed (even Traxxas willl tell you that the foward only coversion will add like 1/8th mph) and off the line acceleration wasn't much different. FYI I drag raced a 2.5 T-maxx with my 2.5 Maxx with the foward only and beat him as I have a somewhat lighter car.

As for 4WD.....Your not buying a Nitro Monster truck to drive it mostly in parking lots are you....probaly not! Yes, the 2wd Sportmaxx will accelerate SLIGHTLY faster on and off road as opposed to the T-maxx (assuming you get the 2-speed conversion) but again it's not really noticable. Here's a simple...almost rhetorical question. Would you rather have a 4wd or a 2wd truck off road?? Your off road driving in almost every asspect offroad is substantially improved with 4wd....hell, even on road it helps to have 4wd for better hard conering and general traction (it also makes it allot easier to jump up small curbs).

Some will tell you that not having the rotational mass of the front tires will make it a better jumper but again I've seen Sportmaxxs jumping and my T-maxx jumps just as well.

It's bad enough how easily (like a real truck with open diffs) one diff will slip off road and how much traction you loose. I can't imagine only having whimpy 2wd (hill climbing is sweet since I added thick great to make my diffs limited slip). As others have stated above your going to spend allot more to convert it to two speed, 4wd and reverse if you want it so just get the freaking T-MAXX and have a blast!!! Then spend your money on Hops-ups to make your maxx more bash proof!

Peace

i would say tmaxx both are about as durable as the other but a tmaxx climbs better has reverse and 4wd....its worth it
