So I admit, I am rusty in the field. I haven't been out there in a while; This week was a testament to that.

Customer phoned very upset on like Monday with no heat claiming I had done a poor job of the installation (anyone who has seen my work knows it's false) and that they're in need of help.

Another company had come out and said, "ah ha, furnace is to big, you'll need a new one!"

It's a five year old multi stage unit (can operate like a smaller furnace to save energy). WTF 🙄

I asked the homeowner, have you done any renovations? Nope. Like, how is this a problem now and not say, four years ago?

Okay, show up, house looks the same.

I find issue after issue after issue this week:

Fresh air intake plugged 🤔

It's clearly TRYING to breath.

Clean

RA throughout the house not cut full size, this is the living room.

Flame sensor dirty

So no heat again today, back there trying to figure it out. Still chasing lack of RA ( Return Air)

Holes for main RA are tiny

Still over heating! 😡

Then I crack the furnace door. It's dieing for air right at that point. Then it clicks. It HAS to be the filter. I pull it out, it LOOKS clean. Home owner said it was new so that is believable.

However, now I hold it up to the light. Huh. Little slivers of light.

So after confronting them nicely they admit they have been having drywall repairs from an insurance claim (water damage).

Went to HD and grabbed a new filter.
Problems, I say again, PROBLEMS solved!!

Man, screw that other company!

And this is why I had a successful business.

It's easy to blame a machine, hard to diagnose EXACTLY what a problem is.
Those RA issues were so obvious, the patch was already there to look. And I know what you're thinking, but after two days of slaving away to put that furnace in by myself I usually cannot wait to get home and take a day or two off. I'm so cashed out from 30k steps in two days that I'm a literal zombie for a bit.

AND then, I find out these POS didn't even clean the thing like they were paid to do (I suspected when the flame sensor was dirty)

You can see vacuum marks just beside the blower above this text, but look for my finger wipe on the blower wheel.

Crooks I tell ya. CROOKS

I said to the home owner that the previous owners were also chasing this same problem which is why there were heat runs removed in the basement and patched (to try and force heat somewhere else).

I'm contemplating going back to the field so this was a nice refresher if not extremely frustrating as it has eaten up every bit of my free time this week. 🤬

Alright I have another one on the list. Oh sorry, the list of auto design engineers that had anything to do with the front end of a vehicle that takes any more than 3 minutes to change a headlight bulb. Especially when they're cruel about it. Like putting a big twist out plug in the wheel liner right below the headlight assembly. That doesn't let your hand get anywhere near the bulbs. Had to remove the airbox to get at it and I still have 2 knuckles with no skin, an arthritic thumb that won't work until tomorrow and a broken wire routing clip. 2014 Grand Cherokee if anyone wondered.
I'll be back later with "Whatcha drinking?"

Usually I feel I don't have any useful input into the conversations, so I just like the posts instead, and all of you guys are great, so I like everyone's posts. Except when they say something dumb
But I say dumb things ALL the time and you like my posts still. 🤷‍♂️
