Hey everyone, Novice here! I have this really old Tamiya Egress that I've had for about 25 years. I know the technology is outdated but now that I bought my son a new Rustler I want to join him and build this old 4wheel drive buggy for some fun but on a cheap budget. The motor works however I dont have the remote and the antenna fell apart. I am trying to see what options I have with the stock motor and the speed controller. Is there anything I should look for or stay away from when purchasing new parts?
are there things that are not compatible with the current system? Is there a specific type of sytem I should work towards? And by systems I mean everyrhing electronic pretty much. Any ideas?
thanks

that is a cool buggy! welcome to RCT and welcome to the hobby!!!!
as far as electronics go
tx/rx system: i highly recommend the FlySky GT3C or GT3B they are ~$40~45$, and $35~40$ respectively for a RX and TX combo.
very inexpensive, good quality, can hold up to 10 presets for vehicles on one controller, you can buy waterproof receivers for around 10$ each on amazon.
GTSC vs GT3B, the C model has a battery similar to a phone battery, charges via USB port, very light (almost weirdly light) and the scroll wheel is different. the B model uses 8 AA batteries.
ESC (if staying brushed, for that model id probably recommend brushed),
i would look towards maybe dynamite ESC

or maybe even what i did for my Wheely King, which was get a Arrma Brushed ESC
https://www.horizonhobby.com/ARA390...MI1_zLquLy5gIVgtdkCh3YsA7KEAQYBCABEgIPHPD_BwE

both are waterproof, and so far seem to be working great after 20 ish packs through them.
i will say the Arrma ESC seems to have some quality control issues, my first one i got would overheat really badly, but was able to get it warrantied, (thank you Horizon!), and I've heard about a few other people with the same issue, i do not know if it was an old batch or something but is what it is. for this reason i would recommend getting through a main parts supplier i.e. Horizon, tower, Amain, direct, etc.

servo:
i am kind of a Hitec guy, and try to stick with their servos, the Hitec HS646wp as it is waterproof, and cheap.

My recommendations anyways.
definitely let us know how it goes!

Wow! Thank you so much for all the info. I really do appreciate it. I want to get this buggy rolling again. I had some guys help me identify my other buggy also and comes to find out I have a first gen rc10 gold pan also. I want to get these bugs back to life.
