Dude nothing for nothing but the teens is just too cold for nitro,no wonder why she Dnt wanna run, lol,I live in upstate ny,and run in the winter but when its too cold its too cold

transmited from a mobile communications device

It runs great now,i ordered the pull start set up but it will take a couple days to get here so i bought a new gear set for 10$ put the new gear in and it runs fantastic,no issues from cold at all, starts on the 1st press on the ez start..Do you kno if they make metal gears for these probs?

Also once again thanks for all in fo,you guys were a great help..

Lol..its all I can do for now to pass time until my quad is out of the shop, and its really not bad,
starts on a dime an runs like a champ don't forget the fun in the snow lol..

It's not fine! You should listen to what people are telling you here. You're new other people here have years of experience and what they're telling you is correct, I'm not going to go into a long post here telling you what's going to happen to your engine cause you're probably not going to listen but in my opinion I would stop running until it atleast gets into the 30s*.

Exactly I am new!!! ..this thread was about a motor not running because of a bad gear the 1way bearing was spinning in a plastic gear, that had nothing to do with weather , the truck runs 100% fine, not 1 person on hear said ill have motor probs because of weather. when they said I'm asking for trouble I thought it meant about runability like it wouldn't run rite because of the tuneing can change because of colder weather, kno 1 said nothing about damages to motor, well I do listen and i do take advice and I'm all ears because I didn't kno I can damage my motor in this at all. So what can you tell me? Thanks

I can tell you if a good engine runs too cool for too long, it will destroy itself.

If you're going to run in the cold you should wrap the cooling head with something to help the engine warm up and expand like it's supposed to do. Sometimes in extreme cold it's hard to get an engine to run rich enough because the needle will only let so much fuel in. A well tuned engine with a wrapped head may still not warm up past 150° if it's super cold out. If your engine doesn't have any "pinch" left then it's already a lost cause.
"Pinch" is that tightness you feel on a new engine when you turn it over, it's a tapered sleeve, and it is the key to a good performing engine.

Thanks for the info Ans it deff has a tight motor just as it did when new, .(I can tell from spinning with my finger, I kno how to tell I'm a experienced ATV Mechanic and kno what to feel / look for in compression)
I didn't kno the damage that could be done from the cold so I will hold off from running until it warms up..thanks for all the knowledge you guys kicked my way..

You can still get away with it if it's 30 or 40 out, but 15° is too cold. Nitro engines have a tapered cylinder sleeve that expands when they warm up, that's why if they run too cool they will wear out pre-maturely. Nitro engines are completely different from any kind of atv engine, but at least you have mechanical ability.

Gotcha,i may be picking up a JATO 3.3..dont kno much about it other then it runs good from what the guy says.Ill kno more when he brings it down to show me..He says it runs strong great compression. has aftermarket torsion bars that are anodized aluminum red.also have another wireing kit for the ez start because the one on it is warn. extra new axles because the ones on it are warn around the boots. they dont need to be put on but just bought them for extra.
I like the RC hobby alot and am looking forward to doing some lite modding to them ,basicly looking for more tourqe then speed being i have lots of dirt hills around me,not soft but hard dirt,i like the hill climbings and off roading.
But any idea of what to loook for being i dont kno much, also he bought it sec hand so it prob does have some time on it,,any help will be appreciated, thanks
