I have tmaxx 3.3. on it's way.I currently have a nitro rustler 2.5.I was told by the local hobby shop, that smaller motors are faster??This NOT what traxxas said when they built the 3.3.So has anyone lined these two up and raced?I know the 3.3 will have more bottom end power. My friend has a 3.3 tmaxx and I think my 2.5 nitro rustler is faster. But it is also a 2wd stadium racer and half the size!Fun truck though!

You hobby shop guru must have meant the smaller engine revs higher, or he has a few to sell off and was hoping you'd buy.

Smaller engines are faster than what???

Generally speaking, larger displacement engines produce more power/torque.
With more power/torque you can gear to go faster than with a smaller displacement engine when comparing the engines in the same RC.

The 3.3 produces more power than a 2.5 both on bottom end and top end. Both will turn approximately the same top rpms but the 3.3 will get there quicker and can be geared with a taller ratio to go faster than the 2.5 with the same setup/rc because it can pull the taller gears.

There is really no way to compare a Rustler to a 10lb Tmaxx with any engine.
That would be like putting the same SB 1:1 engine in a city buss and a Chevy Vega and seeing which would be faster.

Your LHS most likely meant that SB engines tend to turn more RPM’s than a BB engine.

He said the smaller motor revs higher, they will out pull a bigger motor top speed.Maybe he is comparing a big block .28 to like a .15??3.3 and 2.5 are very similar,so they make about the same peak rpm.Like comparing to a HPI savage .28 has more torque than top speed.I guess that's what he is saying? But 3.3 vs 2.5 he's wrong.

It's proven that the 3.3 is a more powerful engine. As far as your rustler with a 2.5 on it being faster than a tmaxx, I can picture that easily. It's a hp to weight ratio... Kind of like a sport bike with 200 hp opposed to a car with 350 hp.. bike wins.

Your guy at the lhs is misleading you on this one. Both engines turn about the same RPM as said above but the 3.3 is going to put out more torque than the 2.5 no questions asked. Just because they work at a hobby shop does not mean they know what they are talking about. I have a 3.3 jato, go ahead a bring a 2.5 on and the 3.3 will walk off and leave it.... Is the 3.3 overkill? For that RC , yeah kinda but the question is what is faster.

The HPI .30 savage has bigger motor and I don't think it would pull a 3.3 car on top end?Maybe that's what he means? He's comparing big blocks to the 2.5 and the 3.3?

The only thing I know of better of a 2.5 vs 3.3 engine is the 2.5 you can hold it at wot longer than the 3.3 thats about it. I had a 2.5 in my T Maxx and it was ok and when it blew up I out the 3.3 in there and it was a different truck it was WOW type of difference. 2.5 is a good engine and there hard to kill but not near enough power for the T Maxx or Revo IMO.

I have a Savage XL with .32 on it that smokes my neighbors T-Maxx 3.3. He gets me on take off but after that he has to eat my dust.
