ok, well thanks to all of you that helped me with my previous problems i have my t-maxx running and i love it, i ended up putting the pull start back on it but till it give me more problems it can stay, anyway i was running it today and it was running great, well untill i stripped the spur gear! is there a reason why it stripped? my t-maxx did a couple cartwheels today and mayby the motor shifted? well anyway the spur geear is strippped and i see that traxxas sells a steel spur gear, i was wondering if i should get that or just stay with the stock ones! let me know what you think,
thanks,
Shane

Stock plastic gears are cheap to replace, buy a few so you have them
There are also (derlin?) gears ,like a nylon i think they are stronger but a little more $.
I run Robinson Racing steel gears on most trucks.More $,heavier so mabey reduce performance, but very tough.(not indestructable though :) ).
It might not be a bad idea to have the weak link to be the inexpensive, easily accessable stock plastic spur.

my 2 cents but I am a newb so count it a 1cent

Steel is good sometimes but it was mentioned that its nice to have an inexpensive weak point.

If you've got a metal spur and something is causing it to strip now you ruined a moderately expensive Spur and Clutch Bell. I use plastic in most of my cars because id rather replace a 5$ plastic part than 2x 15$ metal ones.

I run steel gears in my tranny and spur, you need a hardned CB to run a steel spur. you need lock tight also on everything so you dont mess up your mesh and if you flip check everything to get everything tight if it got knocked loose.

ok, well for now i will go with the stock and wait to put the steel on till i get the right parts, thanks so much for all your help! also i am looking to buy a roll cage and some wide arms for it so i can put my 8.5 inch tires on and steer without rubbing the side of the truck, so let me know if you guys have any, and thanks again for the help,
Shane

If you're going to put 8.5 inch tires, you are going to need to drastically change the gearing I would think. You should need a lot more bottom end to get those big tires rolling. You may want to cinsider this since you're going to be buying a spur gear, find out what you need to gear it way down for those huge tires and get that.

You need to upgrade your steerinng with those tires. servo, servo saver, knuckles... I have 7 inch tires and it want steer hardley.

I bearly got 8 tanks of gas through it and i have already gone through 3 spur gears going on my 4th right now. I'm just about ready to through this thing over a bridge i can't even get a tune on it without breaking it. It's at the shop right now for the 3rd time. Guess it wasn't meant to be.

i bet its the tires that alott of tire for that poor little motor and spurs are made to go out if something is really wrong so id start looking at my drivetrain tranny diffs bearing etc.

It has stock tires on it. Everything is stock out of the box. Only thing i've done is put gas and spur gears in it. Everyone ready for this? I bought 3 Tmaxx at once. Out of 3 only one has not giving me any trouble. You don't won't me to get on the soap box about the other one. The guys at the hobby shop are on the phone with t maxx support to try to figure that one out. I trust the guys there, they no what there doing. I don't no........I just think i made the wrong decision on buying the trucks.

man I no people who have the maxx and have had no problems. But me on the other have worked on the truck way more than I have ran it. Then I did what I wanted and made my maxx how I wanted it to be and chanded everything, Now you might have lemons or maybe your mesh is wrong and chewing up spurs. Some screws come loose easy I have heard on these. All you can do is lock tight them or get new motor mount and screws

When I first got my maxx it seemed like I drove it for a few hours then worked on it for a week. Well all I've done is put a set of RPM A-Arms, integy piggyback shocks and integy springs, motor saver air intake, aluminum bulkheads, and a few other things, and now its solid as a rock. The main reason that I enjoy it more and work on it less is because I took the time to learn all I can about the truck, I spend a few hours each night studying the truck and nitro engines and RC stuff in general, after taking the truck apart completely and putting it back together myself a few times, I know how each part works and what to do when something goes wrong. So now I just take it out, put fuel in, and go. Once you learn how to work on these trucks yourself, you will figure out lil tips and tricks and when something goes wrong you can fix it in a few minutes instead of a few days. I was discouraged with my Maxx always breaking and I bought a Savage X SS that I just started building, but now that I've got my truck the way I like it and I know how to work on it, it's been super dependable. I have been clearing 8 feet jumps today and landing on my lid and doing cartwheels and not one thing went wrong. I was shocked how tough it is.

i have been running the stock gears since new and only changed it one time
i personally would stick with what works for me

I cracked a motor mount once and stripped a few plastic spurs before I founf the damage. It would seperate under load and then flex back together off load.

Had the same thing happen to the alternator mount on 1:1 car also.

Well will we see what happens i went by the hobby shop after work today. And they were putting on the spur gear. So i'll find something out tomorrow.
