i notice ahwhile back ppl using ghe 18t bell for more torque,
what spur where you guys using ,,i tried the 72t and used a pc of paper to adjust the mesh ,,seemed good ,but tore up the spur,,
and as you seen the motor also in the other thread,,but anyways ,,
what do you think??
thanx rick

The piece of paper works well but It is not always as efficent as Firmly holding the clutchbell in place, So it will not move, Then wiggle the spur, If it ticks in between the teeth, It is fine. If it doesn't move, Re Adjust your Mesh. See if this works, You might be a couple of teeth to high on the clutchbell. 72 is the stock spur gear teeth setting I think. Later

I use the paper to get it close , the check it, and adjust as said above. Someone told me what stock was, but I can't remember if it was 72, or what, but I have an 18T CB, and stock spur gear. Works fine. I'm thinking of either getting the largest spur gear I can, and/or the smallest CB. Anyone know the largest Spur size?

72t spur is stock from what i read from the parts sheet ,20t bell is stock also ,,i seen somewhere there is a 74t spur ,,
if i find it i will let ya know ,,,

Stock gearing is 72/20, I am running a 72/18 set up on mine. I used the paper method at first but now I just set it by feel. The paper method works well but always feel it, you will learn what feels right. You dont want it too sloppy, but too tight is no good either. Dont forget to locktite the engine mount screws to keep them from loosening up while you are running and stripping the gear. If you are having gear stripping problems also check the tranny screws. A friend of mine was stripping spurs like they were free one day. He kept replacing them, setting the mesh, but when he ran a few minutes the gear would strip out. Turned out the tranny was moving, not the engine. Just something else to keep in mind.

Kimbrough makes a 74 tooth spur gear.
