Yet another project I just finished. My brother in Rochester handed me a Pro-Line TVR Speed 6 at Christmas and told me he wanted me to do a show body for him. He had plenty of race shells, but he wanted something special to bring on the car when he showed up at the track. After sitting and staring at this thing for nearly 4 months, and while creating the Lightning Bug in the interim, it finally hit me. And this is what I came up with:

I decided that since it is uniquely British, it deserved a coat of the Queens' colors. I hope you like it.

It was done mostly with Faskolor. The primary color is Faspearl Green. I tried to introduce some Faschange Blue to give it a little shift, but I didn't get it on thick enough. You just can't see it. The flag is Faspearl Red, Faspearl Blue and Faspearl White. The tearaway is shaded with Pactra Transparent Smoke so the red shone through a bit. All backed in Faspearl Silver. I did learn 2 things on this project. Quality masking tape makes a HUGE difference. And Pro-Line window masks still need some work. I had to cut all but the rear out of regular masking tape because the originals wouldn't stay.

VERY sweet pain job Candyman.

I've been using the blue masking tape labled 'for painters' is there another you can recommend?

Blimey that is a spot on...good show mate.

that body is tits. you did a great job...the masking on the flag is top notch

The masking really left a lot to be desired. The form is good. The symmetry is good. But the cheap all-purpose masking tape that I used bled like crazy. After each color in the flag I had to take a Q-tip with water and take off all the seepage. It sucked. No matter how hard I burnished the edges it kept coming up. I figure it's worth the extra $$ for the good 3M stuff to keep from having to do that.

But aside from that, thanks for the props.

Great paintjob Candyman! Try the 3m blue painters masking tape, it is great. It won't bleed under and won't leave any residue if removed within 14 days. It is a little more expensive, ok a lot more, but well worth it.

Alot more expensive?? The regular yellowish tannish stuff is like $1.50 roll...the blue stuff is $3.00 at home depot by me anyways...

How much did you pay Nitro??

I paid about $4 for a roll of 1" wide 3m blue painters tape. Compared to $1.50 that is alot more expensive, 3x more. But like I said before well worth the extra money.

HA!!!!!!!!!! you got ripped off

I payed 10 bux for a roll of 3/4 and 1" and 1 1/4 (I think)

Thats a Awsome looking body !!Candyman Your painting is AMAZING...I wish i could paint like that..

OMFG, one of the best Non-pro paintjobs I've ever seen.
I especially like how the greenish color kind of how can I say it, "rips" to the flag. Very Nice job. Keep up the good work.
Say...how much would it cost for you to do me a job like that?
:hehe:

Geez, SHK, I totally missed your reply. I have been thinking about offering up some custom works. I just don't know how much they're worth. I was thinking like $40-$50 for a body with paint. I guess it depends on how psycho I go on it. I'm just starting to get the hang of all this but it's a ball and I'm going to buy a few more to paint and sell.

You should use a system like:
Body Price+Predetermined amout=Overall Price.
Or you could just charge on however you think its worth. I say you could get away selling the Speed6 one for $40/$45. I think $50 is kind of unreasonable, well I wouldnt pay $50...

Kind of unreasonable, I dont think so. By the time you add up the costs of the body with most now costing in the vicinity of $25, paint, several colors will easily add up to over $10, if you use any chrome thats an $8 bottle alone!, masking, whether it be a mask or home made, and the time involved to do the work, especially something custom, not a one color paint job. At $45 he might barely break even. I sold the ElCamino I painted on eBay for $75, Moskito bodies go for a hundred and up. You get what you pay for.

Put them on Ebay Candyman, don't waste your time on the forums, I tried that route, bunch of tire kickers and flea market bargainers, people have no clue what goes in to doing a custom paint job. You could easily sell that speed 6 on ebay in excess of $60. It costs about $8 to ship a body with delivery confirmation so take that into consideration as well when pricing them, if you put it on ebay the buyer pays shipping anyway. You do really nice work Candyman and could easily make a few bucks selling them on ebay.
