Yup, that's right ladies and gents. There is a new track coming soon to Delray Beach for outdoor offroad r/c racing. South Florida Dirt Devils Off Road Racing club invites you to West Delray Regional Park.

The address is: ENTRANCE: 10875 Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33436

Directions are: Head west on Atlantic Ave in Delray until it ends, the park is on the right. Pretty easy huh?

Memberships will be available for $45/yr. Membership fees will include one free race day and discounted race fees.

This track is being designed with 1/10 scale buggy and truck, 1/8th scale buggy and truck and Short Course trucks in mind...

Bring your ideas, bring a shovel, and prepare to get in on the ground floor of a great racing club built for fun, fun and more fun.

While you are at it, check these guys out:
RC Oval Track Racing

You think you have fun dirt oval racing? These guys have FUN dirt oval racing at Southland Speedway. Doubt it? Ask Jeff Maturo of RCTVLIVE and Jeff's RC studio. He and the Russman traipsed all the way from Naples to Boca to race with this club. I bet they'd do it again too.

In all seriousness, the oval club is where the offroad club gets its inspiration. Check out the oval club at the same address listed above on Saturdays. Get a feel for how the club is, race once if you feel like it. Then, some on by on Sunday and lets get this offroad ball rolling.

Don't forget to check us out on Facebook, here's the link www.facebook.com/groups/211696618920719/

Thank a bunch!

Tomorrow's a work day folks! We'll be working at our new track in Delray from here on out. Work starts at 9am come by and lend a hand. We'll be working on pit lane.

Huge thanks to those that came out to work yesterday morning! We managed to build a section of pit lane and part of the second section. Hopefully the city will deliver our clay sooner than later. We have lots of building to go and need all the help we can get.

As you can see from the photos, we have almost everything we need to build an awesome track. Just as soon as the county parks department finishes another project they're working on, we'll have tons of clay delivered courtesy of them.

Dan has ordered the MyLaps counting system as well as a bunch of transponders. Please PM DanDrc for more info on them.

All of our coping, and the rest of the stand sections. One or two of the sections will be dedicated to the computer equipment and pa system, at least 30ft worth will be driver's stand, we'll have a 16-20ft waste-high pit lane, and a handicap accessible driver's area.

Another Sunday gone and some great progress accomplished! It was great to see a nice turnout and to meet some club members. The chili dogs and salads provided by Dan and Sharon really hit the spot after some heavy lifting
If we keep this up we'll be racing in no time!

Dan has extra AMB Transponders at a discounted price for club members! PM him for the details!

Here's a shot of the raised pit lane construction.

Raised pit lane sections were put near their final place. Next week we sink those puppies into the ground and make them permanent!

Went by the park today to let my son burn off some energy and watch the dirt oval guys. To my pleasant surprised I arrived and saw two fresh loads of shell rock for our track dumped. Time to start building up the base of our berms and corners!
I'll be bringing a power auger with me tomorrow to drill the holes in the ground for pit lane. We'll put the two finished sections in their place and build the entry and exit ramps. Dan and I would also like to grab the 3rd section we'll use for the driver's stand and move it next to the other two.
It's all hands on deck guys, the more people we have the more we'll be able to accomplish! Last week we had a GREAT turnout, but it could always be better :)

Tomorrow, Sunday, March 4th, 2012. Let's get some work done!

Swung by the track site today to check on what the city did for us this week and WOW! It's really starting to look like a track now. All of our base layer is in. The track has been extended. Our berms are all built for us. The drive-off for pit lane has been put down, and the mound that will support our driver's stand and handicap ramp is in place!

Remember, we'll be working on the track tomorrow, Sunday the 11th. We need to get the membership fee's into Dan ASAP. The club needs to purchase the lumber to raise the driver's stand over the mound, as well as build the staircase up to it. City will be dropping clay off throughout the week so let's get this done!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in an while. Been crazy busy with family stuff and work. I took these photos on 4-15, the last day we had the bobcat.

Since then the driver's stand has been mounted as well as more track work. WE'RE SOOO CLOSE! Today was a washout, but this week with a good push we can almost finish up.

Track still needs to borrow or buy the following:

Printer
Water Pump
Leaf Blower/s
PA System
Shovels/Rakes
Shipping Container (tall order I know, but spread the word)

We understand if you can't donate what is on the list, but if you have any of the items and are willing to let us borrow them until we've collected enough dues and race fees to purchase our own it would be appreciated. Remember to get your membership fee's into dandrc!

Now here's some track porn to keep everyone excited on this rainy Sunday:

Revised Track Schedule:

Sunday, May 27th, we'll be hosting a formal practice session.

9am - 4pm

We will have our lap counting system in place as well and a generator for charging up batteries. All AMB/Mylaps transponders will work.

  • Cost is $10 per person, ROAR membership required.

  • ROAR memberships will be available track-side, as well as Dirt Devils club memberships.

With enough vehicles, we would like to run some informal races to test out the lap counting software and get more familiar with it. This is your chance to see how your set up works on the track with actual recorded lap times before our rescheduled home opener on the 3rd of June.

Dan will be bringing a gas grill so everyone can cook up some hot lunch. If you're interested, bring some food to throw on it and toss Dan a couple bucks for the gas.

A note on tire selection: This track is soft and loose (my personal favorite, old school racers will appreciate it). With a little drizzle, it packs down pretty good but is still soft on the surface. This track likes Pins and Studs. Any tread pattern that is too tight will pack up with clay quickly and you'll soon be running slicks. I tried calibers on my stadium truck and it was like ice-skating around the track. Double D's hooked up ok when the track was dry, but when it was damp they packed up with clay almost instantly and all traction was lost. For the front end, Carvers seem to give me the best turning. Tried pins up front, tight ribs, and Carvers. Carvers worked best for me. This info only applies to 2wd open-wheel vehicles. You 4x guys and short course drivers are on your own :D

Alcohol is not permitted on park grounds. If you're caught by a Ranger, you're on your own. Yesterday someone was nice enough to leave a dozen beer bottles laying around after they left. Unacceptable, the club catches all the heat from this and we certainly don't need it. Clean up after yourselves and respect the track if you want to keep it public. If not, the park will fence it off and it will only be usable during club events. I don't want that, neither does anyone else I'm sure.

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

Dirt Devils RC Club will be holding a race this Sunday, June, 3.

Here are some photos from yesterday's race (July 8, 2012). These are just 10 of the 47 photos I posted on our FaceBook page. If you haven't checked us out there yet, join our group! Just search for South Florida Dirt Devils

1/8 Buggy action is seriously heating up. Stadium Truck, 1/10 Buggy, and 4x4 Short Course are all on the rise as well!

Every week our track seems to get better and better. The changes our dedicated members have made as well as the addition of calcium to the track surface has made for really good traction and tight racing. We'll be at it again this Sunday, so if you haven't made it out yet, mark your calenders!

Stadium Truck is heating up boys and girls, BRING EM OUT!! I know we've got at least 4, 6 if Ben brings his buds.

1/8 buggy has been no joke these past few weeks, I'd like to see some more 1/8-E buggies showing these fuel-heads how it's done!

Don't forget, anyone available to help Dan and Joe out Thursday evening for track maintenance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Bring Em Out!!

Stadium Truck is starting to heat up much to my delight, so dust off those ST's and mod motors!

1/8 buggy is fierce as usual, but needs more E-bugs!

4x4 Short Course had a poor showing last weekend for the first time, lets change that up!
