When i finally got to run her after getting the pipe Oring things seemed to be much better. She fired right up and was idling good at factory settings, so i ran a couple laps and she stalled a couple times. i figured from being rich but she fired right up and seemed to be responding good to a couple needle adjustments.. but.. after that she began stalling when i would brake and so i checked the carb gap and it was fine and not closing when i was on the brake but i just could not get rid of the high idle rpms no matter what setting i tried. so being frustrated i quit and went home and when i pulled the engine out i found the clutch spring had broken so that explains one aspect of the whhels turning at idle but how the hell can this thing be at half throttle when the carb gap is at 1mm? it has to be sucking air from the carb, right!?!? oh yeah and check out how crappy my throttle and brake settings are! i have got to figure the linkage out but i admit it i have no idea where to start :(
anyways i posted a video about my front hub carriers being stiff so any advice on that would be good.. thank you.

Aaah, you suffered the same problem as me :) My clutch spring broke 4 times due to me not crimping the spring joints properly, unfortunately this cause HUGE problems with Idle and generally everything :p to fix buy some new clutch springs, and to set brake linkage Take off Servo horn, turn car on, set everything to stock on remote, then put servo horn on where there is a 2mm gap, but the brakes aren't on- you can fine tune after :)

As for the hubs, as long as you have a good enough servo, then you're ok- just use some good grease- and if it is still loose, at the bottom of the hubs there's an allen key, just loosen this a tiny bit then re-tighten- it may just be sticking or there's a stone in it or something. As for the servo noise it may be defective, or your battery isn't giving it enough power (happened to me)

Okay i am going by the LHS tonight to check if they have any clutches so i can just start with a new one since i bought the car used anyways, i would like a new one. i was looking at really nice ones online but i will stick with a factory one, maybe a three shoe upgrade from HPI. I'm not going to trick out the Trophy 3.5 because it's a fun enough basher as it is. I will be upgrading this weekend to the hump pack so maybe that will solve the servo noise, and the new controller and recievers for the Trophy and the Savage may only be a couple paychecks away. i figure it has to be the clutch causing the idle problem because you saw how good it idled the first time i cranked it up but after i ran her for a fewminutes i think that clutch spring broke and my problem started. thank you for your help and i will update when the new clutch is on tomorrow.

Good to know, I'd recommend a stock 3 shoe clutch- it's what I did and it made a world of difference :)

Okay so the guys at my LHS are pretty much idiots, either that or they're just major buttholes. I go in and say i am looking for a 3 shoe clutch and fly wheel for my HPI Trophy 3.5 1/8 scale buggy, and they're like "let me look for the manual" and i'm like wtf dude? I know what the manual say's, i have it at home and it only shows the two shoe stock version and that's why i came here. And then the guy says "i guess thats the only one" and i say, seriously dude you're telling me i have only one option? and then he is like, oh wait i have one for the savage but i am not sure if it will work on the Trophy 3.5. so i asked for just the spring, oh no luck on that either!
So i left kinda pissed off, once again feeling like, either those guys don't know crap about anything other than their own personal favorites or they just are the biggest pricks in Orlando. so now i am trying to figure out if the Savage clutch will work or not.. i think it will which would be great because i could go buy it right away but if not i will just order online and wait for it. Am i being too hard on the guys at the store? am i expecting too much? Does any one else get treated like this at the LHS? I swear the guys at the other big one in town are jerks too. i have met a couple nice guys but thats it. sorry, but i needed to vent! lol

By the way the same jackasses sold me 10k silicone for my 1/8 scale buggy shocks and they are stiff as a freaking board! when i looked up what was the correct oil people were using 30-60k on average. when i learned that i was thinking, why the hell did they do that?

Best to be patient than get the wrong one :p as for the shock oil- from what you've told me they don't sound like a good shop...

yeah i'm in no hurry and i might just stick with the stock one and just get some new shoes. the thing is if i can get a more common three shoe clutch i wouldn't mind having it because it's a cheap upgrade that i believe will make a noticable difference. i would buy the Reds Racing clutch but its always "out of stock" :(
I don't know whats up with hobby store employees.. People come in to their business with money in their hand WANTING you to take it! They are HAPPY to spend their money on the products. In my business NO One wants to spend their money and i have to pry it from their hands! It seems the UK is the place where the HPI Trophy found its home because most of the parts i find for it are there. not sure why, i love this buggy :)

I believe HPI is European owned, and my local hobby shop specialises in their products so I can get them pretty cheap over here- but I am sure you can get them on the internet in the U.S.A :) as for Reds Racing clutches- They have this easy fit Quattro one- it looks awesome, nobody needs a 4 shoe clutch on a buggy but it just looks mental :p

It sounds like some...or most... of the guys in the store are idiots.
In the future, get your info here as to what would work or what would be recommended, THEN go to them for the specific part. You don't want to alienate them completely since it's good to have parts on hand nearby. If they don't have what you need, can't or won't order it, that's when you buy on line.

Yes, don't give business to a rubbish store if you don't need to- you can always find help round here :)

i am nice to them regardless of my opinions, I learned not to burn bridges unless it's a last resort! I dissed them BUT they have helped me many times so i am happy to have them around and they're a racing shop so their stock is about 90% cars, trucks, truggies and buggies (a few drones and choppers) so it's a good shop. Plus i have worked in retail before and it SUCKS, even in the hobby shop i'm sure it's the same ;)

I am going to leave the trophy mostly stock since i am happy with it's performance as it is, no need to upgrade just to upgrade. Instead i will focus on upgrading the savage i bought :D
