anyways. i got a 12tr slide carb.

i took apart the engine recently to clean it all out.

the stock hsn is 2 turns out.

but i can't find stock lsn ANYWHERE

i just fooled around with it for a while trying to figure it out..

THIS THING WAS LETTING GO OF TONS OF SMOKE

it must have been rich up the ying yang. but it felt pretty hot (no temp gun) and i felt uncomfortable how low i had the lsn for a while. i had hsn at like 1 turn out and lsn almost closed i think.. i dunno it seemed WAY to lean. yet loads of smoke...

anyone with a 12tr tell me there about settings for a 60 degree day just to get mine close to where it should be?

thanks in advance

There's so many things affecting tuning for a day such as temp, humidity and barometer readings. There's no "standard" setting for temps. You just gotta feel it out for yourself. As far as settings for the LSN, it should be flush with the flange. From there you may need to lean it out a little bit (1/8 turns) and give it a chance to get used to the settings.

One thing is for sure, get yourself a temp gun. The spit method gets you in the ballpark, but temps will get you better results.

it's the body that the screw is in. The casing. Make sure the top of the screw head is flush or even with the lip of the casing.

when i had it like that is was MAADDDDD rich....

spraying fuel everywhere....

How new is the engine? Is the carb just and add on ? I had the same mill for a while and recently let it go. Diver pretty much said it all. If you are running MAD RICH then your LSN would be protruding past the lip. Is that right?

Jon

it was MADDDDDDD rich with the lsn probly 1/4 cm into the lip =\

MAAAAAAADDDD rich <-- I'm a dork :D

I find a lot of people over tune their engines (I am guilty of this as well). If you have good throttle response (i.e. no bogging or long delay ) when you grab the throttle with a nice decent stream of smoke then the engine is fine. The problem is when you are not getting a nice stream of smoke. The pipe should be spitting out smoke pretty much all the time and when at idle a little amount of fuel should be spitting out the pipe on to the area next to the pipe.

You can use the spit test to error check and the spit should only take 2-3 seconds to evaporate...if it does then everything is fine. The key when you grab the gas you should see a nice stream of smoke to let you know the engine is getting the proper lubrication and is not running too lean. Have fun!
