Hey guys I was just curious if you have to use special oil for your shocks. I was wondering if you wanted to could used thick motor oil like 50W might sound crazy  but I was just wondring if there is something special about the oil you buy at your lhs. Thanks

Jesse

OK cool I thought that there must be some type of additve to protect them

thanks for the info :)

It comes from personal experience. I used engine oil when i had no other shock oil left and i had no time to go to the hobby shop or anything. By the end of the week, the shocks were just oozing oil out of the seals, and it wasn't like dust got in em or anything.

Jesse:

It is not regular oil with a silicone additive, it is pure silicon oil. Comes in different weights just like motor oil, though. Factory oil is 30W for T-Maxx/stock shocks.

I was talking about oil that you would use in your 1:1 car like castrol or havoline something like that.

Motor oil such as Castrol or Valvoline will eat the seals. You have to use pure silicon.

(did you get the rest of your parts yet?)

Yeah, its like 100 percent petrolium. The shock oil that we use in our RC shocks is 100% silicone oil.

Makes sence I was just curious, and no I havent gotten all of the parts to put my maxx back together yet I can't wait hehe I want to go and run it out in the field up the road from here no fences to jump out in front of my truck :hammer:

Yeah, those fences are brutal. Need to scout out the area first. I drove my maxx off into a huge ditch once becuase the grass was hiding it. Was a nice 12-15ft drop and it was kinda scary... but in the end, it was one of the funniest crashes ever. Didn't break much (just the engine mount and an a-arm).

I just wish the first time I crashed it I actually did it and it wasn't taken off on its own That was so frustrating!!! I got a failsafe from Plaidfish so that shouldnt happen again and next time if it breaks hopefully is because I jumped it or rolled it not it going kamikazi on me hehe

Yeah, now that i think of it, i need a fail safe for mine. It is worth over $1500 and i dont have one!!! I put one on my rc10gt when i put the .21 on it (that would be dangerous).

Dude I would get one for sure for your maxx that could be a very exspesive runaway!!
At least the parts that broke on mine where mostly stock except the aluminum shocks which exploded to pieces, I found the parts to them about 40 feet past where the truck stopped lol!!!

hehe yeah I would if I was you do you have pics of your truck I think I've seen it before but not sure.

Wow that is freaking awesome man I think I would add 2 failsafes hehe :jk:
Do you clean it everytime after you drive it?? It looks spotless!!!

That was after i put it all together and i have not gotten a chance to run it yet, because i need a custom engine mount, which happens to be comming in about a week. I am switching the integy shocks for the supermaxx shocks.
