Well, I just got my Savage broken in and tuned. Problem I'm having is, if I go to full throttle from a stop, it wont shift into second gear. If i accelerate slowly it will shift and then it flies. Also, it seems as though it doesn't take much for the wheels to not turn. For example, if i put the front bumper up against something, it wont even attempt to spin the wheels with the motor revved all the way up. It also doesn't want to wheely at all.

Any ideas?

History of the truck:
7 or 8 tanks of fuel through it including break in
Truck wheelied one time yesterday which when it flipped backward stripped the spur gear, (poor mesh from factory I assume)
Hobby shop did not have the 47 tooth spur i had to go to 49

Speed seems good, the tune has plenty of smoke and head temperature at the plug is about 230

Not a newbie by any means but i am a newbie to the Savage

How tight did you turn the spring for the slipper clutch when you replaced the gear?

Whatever was recommended in the book. I think tight then back off a turn or turn and a half? The slipper is not slipping, it bogs the motor down

After re-reading your post, I think either your slipper spring isn't tight enough, or you've gazed the slipper clutch pad. Take the pad and scuff it up with a little sandpaper or emery cloth, and tighten it down all the way, then back the nut off 1/4 turn, try that, and you can tighten it if needed, in small increments.

The manual I have says tighten all the way, back off 1/2 turn. I usually go 1/4.

Pretty sure its not slipping but i will def, look at it. Any ideas on getting stuck in first on wide open throttle?

Did you adjust it at all? You may need to.

No I didnt adjust it, which way does it need to go? It shifts fine under "slow" acceleration but wont shift under wide open throttle. Shift seems timed just right for "slow" acceleration

Clockwise for a later shift, counter-clockwise for an earlier shift. Make 1/4 turn adjustments until you are satisfied with the shift point.

Seems odd though, that it shifts fine under slow acceleration, since it works by rpms. It should shift regardless of smooth or hard acceleration.

Hmm, I'm beginning to think your clutch shoes may be bad. You said when you put the front against a wall, it wouldn't even try to move? Did the spur gear turn? If not, pull the engine, take off the clutch bell, and see what you have. You may have glazed clutch shoes, if so, you can either scuff them up, or replace them with an aluminum clutch shoe kit.

Well i took it somewhat apart to check it out this morning. The slipper was way too loose so i tightened it and i backed off the shift point a little bit thinking it may have been to tight to shift at full throttle. Its kinda cold today but i will try to get it out and see what its doing. The clutch shoes were also a thought

it ended up being that what i fixed was the cause. slipper was way too loose, loosened up the shift which helped the shift in WOT. Too cold to tune it any better than it was so all in all I'm happy with it. After today i dunno why they put front wheels on it :hehe:

Lol, front wheels are only good for keeping the chassis from hitting the ground when you brake. Glad you have it fixed, have fun!

its not 100% right but i see the errors in my ways. Not new to rc but definately new to the Savage. Get a little warmer weather and all will be fine. Right now i have a lot of smoke and temps around 210. More power to be had just not with the cold :)
