Just got a new engine, another XTM .18 and cut the crankshaft with dremel, put the flywheel and clutch nut on. Now seems I didn't cut the shaft short enough (needs at least another 1mm) since it doesn't lock the flywheel- the flywheel spins freely whereas I cannot hold the flywheel when unscrewing the clutch nut. Now my problem is getting the clutch nut off! The guy at my LHS suggests I fill the cylinder up with after run oil and get the nut off with that, I tried it and it STILL turns the engine over. I'm afraid if I get a piston locking device, all that preasure will be making an ugly groove in the brand new piston.

HELP!

Get the piston locking tool. I got a dynamite one for the exact same reason, and it works like a charm.

I used the piston locking tool by Durratrax and had no problem whatsoever on the head. Didnt leave a single mark. Its a part of the Durratrax tuning screwdriver. Handy little sucker actually. I also use a Racers Edge flywheel wrench that kicks butt too!

I had a similar problem and I hydrolockd the engine. Its a little hard, but it is possible. I filled the motor will fuel. Covered the exhaust one with my finger, covered the throttle hole with another, kept the glow plug in and loosened the clutch nut. Make sure you get a good seal or else it wont work. I used fuel instead of afterrun because my little bottle of aftertun is a lot more expensive than my fuel.

good luck

You could pull the backplate and one way out and use something to hold the crankshaft, thats what I did with mayhem's engine when his clutch nut was stuck

Not a good idea, already tried that with a clothe and the preassure whlie holding put a small groove in the connecting rod. :(

I ordered in a piston lock, that's most likely my last option.

Boy I have had nothing but bad luck with RC's since I was a kid.

mjime is right, no need to order or spend money on a piston locking tool, I'm sure if you hydrolock your engine the right way you should be able to get it off. But if you have aready ordered the tool, then I guss keep it, it comes in handy.
