savage tanks are chit (NEW GUARD MADE)

hi all
ok I'm getting really fu**ed off with my savage. IV got through about five fuel tanks in the last week and at £13 each (23.8966 USD) its getting silly. So have any of u had this problem and/or have u come up with any good ideas of how to stop it happening. I think that the plastic that they use is far too brittle and I bet that if u all check very closely u will all find hair line crakes in ur tanks so what u guys/gals think

p:s and no iv not had enough spare time to invent something yet but u can bank on me doing so very soon

Where and how have they broken?

If they are getting a puncture wound from the shocks upper retaining screw, that can be resolved by putting the head of the screw closest to the tank. Also, you could apply a little closed cell foam padding to the top rear half of the tank to help take the blow when the shock tower flexes.

Other than that, I'd need to know more about how and where they broke.

That screw thing dose not work. Ask g-unit lmfao he broke 1 yesterday and as for me yes Iv done 2 with the puncture holes but all the other are just very very small hair line cracks not in any 1 place

i took a soldering iron and melted the cracks togther and then jb welded over the crack and its holding up like a champ it was a quick fix when i wasn't close to a hs but i still havent got a new one yet either and its still holding

been there done that but i dont want to have to keep doing it thanks for the info tho

ye thats not a good idea. very hard to tune ur car (JUST STICK WITH 1 TANK EVERY ONE I WAS WRONG)
lmfao

I used to break the tanks too. Then i got some 1.5 -2mm thick piece of aluminum and made me a fuel tank protector.. Some company makes them but the ones i have seen do not protect the back, the one i made went all the way around, and was bolted on by the two screws that are on the tvp under the tank. it looked like poop but was very functional and i never had to buy a new tank.

Try the New Era fuel tank protector holds it in place and protects the fuel tank from all the shock as well, I have use mine from day one and never had a problem. In fact I've retired my old primer fuel tank for the new primerless tank. I just keep it for a spare. http://www.neweramodels.com

I converted to an ofna buggy tank... haven't run it much yet though. I used the same tank on my maxx's.

Apart from turning the shock tower bolt around, have you also put some rubber washers under the tank where it holds with the split pins. My latest tank is an ex army hip flask made out of aly with lots of silicone sealent where the fuel pipes go in and out and it has a screw on lid. Unbreakable, even with a ten pound lump hammer.

Will do but my camera is bust and my usual camera man is on holiday but trust me it works fine and looks crap.

I'm not one to care for looks aslong as it works lol

It works fine. Even tried a Brake fluid container from an old car in a junk yard, they are plastic but twice as thick as the usual truck tanks. Basically, anything with an air tight lid that you can fasten the fuel line and exaust line too will do the job. Stock tanks are ok for people that drive on tarmac but for people that bash for the fun of it all need strength for the occasional bad landing on the lid.

So dogpile you used a fask for a tank, and you say that it looks like a dogpile of crap!

ok today I'm making it my mission to make a fuel tank protector that will stop all my probs ill post pics laterz

ya done it

Ok I went and measured all the sizes I needed and marked them out on a bit of card.I cut the card out and this is how it started
tank1.JPG

I then folded it and check it fitted and it was like a glove
tank2.JPG

I then needed some metal to cut it out of. Then I remembered I had just thrown out some old computer

So I got 1 of the cases and laid my template on it and drew around it

I then cut it out and sprayed it

And it fitted really nice

So I'm now well happy I don’t have to worry about any air leaks or cracked tank. I actually managed to tune it just right and she runs like a dream go check the vid out in the vid section

That's probably the fastest that 486 is ever going to run in it's life!!!! Good work! I like homeade stuff. Half my maxx is made by me. The other half, taiwan!
