Well i guess ill give you the run down, I'm new to the Nitro RC's and got a 3.3 Revo off one of my friends which needed a glow plug, i put a new glow plug in it and it started and idled fine but when i gave it throttle it would just rev up but go no where so thats when i noticed the Spur gear was worn down and not meshing, i replaced it this weekend and now when i start it the car idles fine and as soon as i try to accelerate it just dies and never moves. I know the spur gear mesh is correct and the car was running and driving a few days before the glow plug went out and spur gear got chewed up so I'm lost do i need to adjust the clutch maybe to tight causing the motor to die and not allow it to move? or do i have something else incorrect? i'm not sure where to start.:\

Thanks in advance.:D

There are a few things that you can check on/make adjustments to that will hopefully get you moving in the right direction or any direction for that matter.

You mentioned that you're new to the hobby so I'm not sure how much tuning you know how to do on the engine. Since you replaced the spur gear you probably tightened the slipper nut on it enough to get the rig moving as long as the engine will stay running when you give it some gas. Therefore, I'd start with the tune.

What you described sounds like the engine may be running a little rich. When this happens you can get it to idle but when you give it gas it's too much to burn off and the engine shuts down. I'd try leaning the high speed needle a little bit at a time. Did you get the owners manual with the truck? If so, then you'll be able to look in there on how to do this. Basically the high speed needle is the larger of the two off the carb. You'll want to make very small adjustments to it, turning it so that it closes in on the carb. I believe this is clockwise.

Make a small adjustment to it and then see if you can get it to idle and stay running when you give it some gas. If it doesn't work the first time, make another small adjustment and repeat the run test. If that doesn't work you may want to try putting high speed, low speed and idle screw all back to factory settings and tuning from there. Again, the settings for that are in the manual. If you don't have one, check the Traxxas website for the settings. They'll also have them for you there.

You can go back to the slipper clutch if need be after all of the tuning is doen but honestly it does sound like it may be the tune that's getting you at this point. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply i will go through the manuel when i get home and set everything back to stock and work my way up from there, i wasn't sure if it was not moving because the tune and the fuel ratio was causing it to stall or if i had something screwed up not allowing it to move and killing the motor i thought id get some kind of movement forward when i hit the throttle before it stalled out on me :hehe:

No problem. Try out the tune first and see how that changes things. You really want to make very very small adjustments at a time. You'll get better results if you make adjustments that way than cranking on the needles a half turn or more each. Hope things get better. I'm sure you're not far off from tearing up a track with that thing if you get it tuned in a bit better. Have fun man...

yea i just looked up the stock settings so I'm gonna set them there and bump them a 1/16 of a turn at a time, ill be happy to have it running half way decent lol beats not moving at all for now:hehe: i been racking my brain trying to get this car right it amazes me a little motor like this can be so aggrivating to tune, but my actual drag car i can get to run 10 sec in the 1/4 all day long lol maybe its all the little peices on these nitro's

yeah these little engines are a pain in the butt sometimes but when they are running right. . .ooooohweeeee are they a blast. Kind of off the subject. . .what kind of drag car do you have???

yea so I've heard, i have a 95 mustang 5.0 turbo charged

How do you know your mesh is right? Does the spur spin freely without any binding at all? If the mesh was overly tight, it would labor the engine a lot when the clutch engages and potentially kill the engine.
