Long story short... Since OSRocket managed to overpinch the dog crap out of my engine and after his attempt to fix it failed miserably, I'm now in the market for a new entry level bump start .21 engine. I'm going to be browsing the web myself but I'd like some first hand opinions from experienced members. Please do not post with "I have a buddy who said engine-X is awesome". I'm looking for...

  • Economy- not more than $150
  • Ease of use- something friendly to the amateur engine tuner
  • Bump start
  • New
  • .21- not a .20 or .23 or any other wacky size.
this is for a 1/8 buggy

Thanks fellas!

LRP .21(Nosram, SH, Dynamite and Sportwerks). I have a z.21 spec2 bumpstart engine. It really easy to tune, and runs great. Not as good a fuel economy as the high breed Italian engines, but still a god engine.

Warning shameful plug.

I actually have one I need to sell. It has around 5 liters of fuel through it and has lots of compression left. It actually still sticks at TDC. Let me know, and I'll give you a good deal.

Shameful plug over. :)

Here's a list of stuff I just looked up real quick. A little more than I originally planned but still reasonable for me. Is this Dynamite the one you're talking about Neobart?

Dynamite Platinum .21 off-road: $175

RB Concept S3 II L2G: $185

OFNA Hyper .21 8-port: $170

OFNA Delta Force .21 P8: $190

The Dynamite looks to be a newer rendition of my engine. But for the money and the selection you show, I would go with the RB. It might not be the most powerfull RB, but for a buggy it will be plenty. And it will outlast all the other engines easy.

Hey Josh, I don't have any experience with the RB you posted the link to, but I have an RB WS7II in my PCR Pro and it is a freakin animal!!! And mine is not really even broken in yet. I love this engine and would highly recommend it, but it was a bit more than what you were looking to spend. Of the engines you posted links to, I would definitely go with the RB.

The Hyper .21 8 ports need the carb replaced with an OS carb to work well, the carb that is on them pretty much suck. So plan on adding another 60-100 for a 20c carb.

great tidbit, thanks Joe!

Well, I certainly don't want an engine with a PITA carb so I guess it's down to the Dynamite and RB. $10 really means nothing and RB has a pretty good reputation. Sounds like the Dynamite is pretty user friendly. The Dynamite is like a 7 port where the RB is a 3 or 4. In lamens terms... what does that mean for me?

I've been waiting for that RB engine to come into stock at Tower and it did 2 days ago (in limited quantities). I won't have the money for a couple weeks but it's already out of stock again. When I'm ready to buy something I'm not gonna wait around waiting for an entry level engine to come into stock again.

Any knowledge of this...

Josh the nova is a great mill. Right in line with the rb, I've had a rbs3 and it was a stump puller as i believe the 421b is. Have you looked at the collari b3 or b7 they are right in your price range. Great mills as well.

Thanks Ben, I'll look into your other suggestions as well. BTW, good to see you on the boards again

Woot Woot!

It's here!

I ended up with the RB since AMain had it in stock. Man, they ship out fast! I put in two ordes this week, one on Wednesday morning and one Thursday morning. I got both 2 days later respectively (priority of course). But still, two days priority from Cali is fast.

This engine looks great! It looks like crap on my current body but I may have to give my S3 a makeover over the winter :) The engine head is enormous compared to my old O.S. RG. Wow, impressive. The head even droops down over the top of the block which addes a couple more fins where it's needed most. Very nice! I'm very happy with my purchse so far and I havn't even installed it yet :D Thanks fellas!

Guys are running the GO engines at our track. They are inexspesive and they have had good luck with reliability and the performance is great.

Oh you got one never mind :)
