reciever or radio not working.

My radio system isnt working on my jato 3.3. I'm not sure whether it's my radio (just put new batterys in it) or my reciever. I heard I need 12 AA and I put 8 in th radio.. but where do the other 4 go? Also right by the reciever there's a little charging thing where I should plug in the charger. I put in my charger ( I have 2, tried both) and it doesn't charge. please help so I can get it working for christmas.

also there is a box loooking thing in the rear that I dont have. What is it and do I need it?

You probably need to charge that receiver battery. Did you open it up to see what kind of battery it is? It's probably a traxxas 1100mah 2/3 cell hump pack. You need to set your charger to 5 cells, and charge it at .08 amps. Also sounds like you need to read your manual.
