I'm trying to build a transmission for my 2wd slash because, I've destroyed 3 stock transmissions. my issue is now that I'm trying to get a diff locker and that is aluminum. I've gotten an aluminum idler gear but, I can't find a aluminum top drive gear. Do y'all know where or what to get.

I'm doing the exact same thing. I just started the process though...Please let me know what you have purchased thus far...? Anything you think you would have done differently...?

Please, help me understand your wanting of aluminum gears for your tranny when steel is available. The most "bulletproof" 2wd tranny I ever had was composed of steel for the top shaft, idler, and diff gears.

Whats better...? Steel if its better.

speaking of gears, mine are grinding right now. you don't need steel or aluminum gears. if the material is good and the tolerances/mesh are good, plastic is fine. and quieter. and better for performance sense it's less rotating mass and less weight hanging off the backend.
that's why a 30 year old Team Associated Stealth tranny can handle brushless/lipo but a 20 year old traxxas tranny can't handle a 15 turn brushed motor with a 6 cell nicd pack.
