hey guys, looking to upgrade my savage xl engine, and came across a brand new rb mt9. i have been told its the same thing as the mt10 and mt11 but i know nothing about these engines.. is it anything compared to a picco 28 or lrp 30? i know its a .28 and i guess its a racing engine.. thats about it lol.. would this engine be a good choice for my savage xl? does anyone know anything about these engines? i can't seem to find much.. any info would be great

Shiz, I recently purchased a modded Rb concept St28 from Rb Mods and i love it on my X. I had the HPI F and K 4.6 and it is no comparison. I run O'donells 30% racing fuel and 47/18 gearing and i don think you could gear this thing low enough to keep the wheels on the ground. To be honest i think the Mt9 is a step or two up from the St28 could be wrong. Here is a video of my first couple of runs with it.

That looks like it has good power. I can't seem tk find any info on the rb mt9 nor find many vids of it. I know rb motors are supposed to be pretty good. Id like to try it i just dont want to waste my money lol. Nice video

Rick at Rb Mods is a real nice guy and he may of had an Mt9 or another Rb concepts engine when i got mine but the St28 came with a tuned pipe and nice black savage engine mount. He answered a every question. He maybe able to help with details if that's what your looking for.

Your tune is kind of lean, I would richen up your needles a bit if that engine is still kind of new.

Ya it was a little lean. The first and last segment was right after i bolted it in. I got it tuned in now. I'm really interested in of your raw unpolished pipes. Stainless Tig is an art and i appreciate your craftsmanship. Have you ran or seen one on an Rb? I'm sure its like any other engine. Thanks!

Ya i will try to call him. I know it says they are made for a monster truck I'm just curious of itnwill have enough power to push my savage xl around with ease. Inwant good power and was told that rb motors are the way to go

I'm sure it's been done before but I have no feedback. Should you try it and not see a nice gain in performance I would take the pipe back for a small restocking fee. That's a one time only offer as I know how it runs on most every other engine for MT :)

10 years ago, you couldnt beat an RB engine out of the box. These days I dont see them as much but I'm sure they still make great power and are great engines.

Well thanks a lot Extreme that's a very generous offer. Tax season is here so i may get to spend a few more pennies on my X without having to change my address. Extreme on another post you mentioned putting Rb mods Picco against one of yours. That got me thinking about an issue of Hot Rod Magazine i had where four of the best engine builders in the USA had a build off. IMO It would be pretty awesome to see that done with 3-5 of the best rc engine modders with a single test vehicle. Test fuel economy, top speed, lap times, temp and other basics. Maybe even dyno each one to see the power curve and at what RPM it makes power I would definitely buy a copy of any rc magazine to read an article like that.

my only concern is will the mt9 have enough power for my savage xl? i have the 5.9 right now.. and want to get a picco .28 but came across this rb mt9for a good deal.. I heard that the mt9 mt10 and mt11 are the same.. but like i stated before.. i know nothing about the rb engines
