Those are great racing tires, but if he is going to be running on pavement or anything really hard I would go with a different tire. I'm drawing a blank on the name of the tire right now, but badlands seem to be comming to mind.

Your local shops should have tires as well.

The kit you got is just as competitive as the XB8 and P5, its really a matter of preference/availability.

I didn't realize it came with those tires, those are a great racing tire but like vbgagnon said they aren't for pavement. If you want to run on pavement I would suggest something more like teh Proline Knuckles. I run the Proline Badlands cause where I run the dirt is very loose/heavy.

I have the same starterbox as the one you got and I use this battery. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXL370&P=M

Here is a simple wall charger for it. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJC38&P=M

Building an actual kit is very involved. Is your dad expecting a real "kit"?

I still say get him a cheap mill to learn on.....someone else chime in on this...I really don't think he fully understands How involved this project is...then to learn to tune on a high end mill is just asking for disaster.....

Plaid does have a point. If you dad's buddies are as new as he is, then I would suggest getting a cheaper engine as well for him to learn on. An os RG would be a good start.

If he picks up a OS RG for around $100 he could learn how to drive and tune with that, and then drop in the V-Spec. If you have already bought the V-Spec I would keep it, but it would probably be a good idea to learn on an OS RG.

well..in that case....The better driver would come out ahead...which will come with pratice.

welcome to the board man.

I thing that an AWD BUggy would rip a 2wd truck around any track

but driver matters most!!!

Thanx for all the comments. I missed to say that my pops in-law is into R/C and not me. He's into those fast boats (which he races with buddies in their firm), helicopters/choppers and planes before I even knew his daughter (my lovely wife of course:) ). So in other words he knows stuff about R/C alot. BUT as far as I know, this is his 1st 4-wheeled R/C.

Their projects used to be all sea/ocean/water based and this is just on of the few land based projects they have (maybe that explains the floating and flying R/Cs). Their current project right now are refineries (alot of earth moving) so I guess he'll be most likely to do backyard-dirt-racings :arrr:

Anyway, back to the R/C... He of all people knows that he gets his hobby stuffs by himself. It's just now that he (out of the blue) contacted me to make the purchase. He's just too busy and don't have time to do it himself. Here's his main instruction/s after a few emails and asking him about all the recommendations given here...

"just buy me a good buggy and I'll pay you back when I pick it up before leaving :devious:

LOL, are you kidding me? Yeah right... and if I screw up? :whip: (just at the back of my mind heheh)

Also, I'll be picking up the starterbox AC charger after work and he'll (the shop guy) be showing me some tires so I'm listing down all your tire recommendations:thankyou:

Sheeeesh... this entire thing almost is costing me my week pay... ugh! Hope he's not giving me a raincheck for what he owes :arrr: LOL

if it's loose type dirt then those badlands or knuckles would rip.....remember loose surface needs real beefy knobs.....harder packed surfaces need more "knobs" but smaller lower to the tire body....and street tires will work on HARD HARD packed dirt and asphault.......it's funny when you can use road rages on dirt......
