I have a question for everyone. Has anybody ever been crticised or put down for being involved in this hobby? I ask because some of my so called friends and a few family members have made some remarks regarding how i choose to spend or waste as they called it my money. things like "He needs to quit wasting his time and miney on those damn little kiddie trucks and fix his real truck." which i hit a deer with 2 years ago. It still runs fine and drives fine it just has a beat up fender and the grill is busted. It's a 95 ford ranger big deal. Anyway sorry for the rant it's just it kinda rubbed me the wrong way and was wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

They havent said anything to me yet but I'm real sure they think it...
But I'm the one getting out of bed and going to work everyday...
So I will always spend my money the way I want too..
I still get the things that need doing done...
I'm not like a crackhead that spends all my money on drugs and then my kids dont eat...

Yeah probably should have just wasn't exactly sure it was kind of a broad question sorry.

Same here I still handle what needs to be taken care of. It's not like I blow my insurance payment on a new radio or my phone bill on a new engine.

i dont have that problem ..guess I'm lucky ...my familly & friends actualy thinks my truck is cool :D...and never comented on the $$ i spend on this hobby ....like my mom told me when i got my revo last winter

'' you always wanted a gas powered toy ever since you were a kid , but we could not afford it ...now you can afford it ...have fun with it '' :D

well...thats exactly what I'm doing mom ;)...lol

Well, a few times my mom and dad have gotten mad like when I buy big orders on amain for my trucks, and they tell me I shouldn't spend so much money on them. And then they see me work on them, and have the whole truck torn down, cleaned, and put back together in two hours. So they think I could spend my money on this, or be doing drugs so thats how they see it. I stay out of trouble and they dont get mad about it.

The people who have expressed their opinions about it think it's cool, those who haven't, either don't care, or know better than to start crap with me about something I love. I spend alot, my wife encourages it, I bought her one, and I'll be buying her another one before next spring. My father-in-law actually has an RC10GT, but I have yet to get together and bash with him,

I'm just stocking up right now, marriage in 3 weeks, then planning for children. I always pay the bills and get the food first.....I've been through the BAD habits....:)

... It's a 95 ford ranger big deal...

Yeah... fix a 15 year old pickup truck (vehicle that is primarily built to be abused and to only look good the day you drive it off the lot) or buy something that you get some enjoyment out of that keeps you from polishing your rifle and being on a roof picking off these "friends"...

I choose toy trucks!

I get a similar reaction, but I'm a big enough jerk in general that they don't say things to my face. Even if they can't stifle their immediate reaction of a disapproving look on their face, I remind them that I'm not at the bar every night like they are killing their livers and home life.

We each choose our demons, or they choose us. I'm just glad that mine is a nitro breathing version! ;)

I've got the same problem. No ones said to my face, but mention it to my fiance (sp). I have a 96 dakota that I just rebuilt the trans, all new cooling system, engine is strong and for a slt with a lift and v8 why the hell not. Other then that, I've got a large amount of money wrapped in to the stereo system. I also have 3k in paintball gear. And now I'm starting this hobby, which I should have bought brand new lol. But tried the easy way got burned. I work ten hour days, goto school, if they don't like how I spend my money after bills are paid then they don't need to come to my house..

I would just tell them there are much worse habits or things that you could be spending money on besides TOY CARS , As long as all the the necessities are taken care of first, that is all that should really matter, I think everyone should have some sort of hobby or way to have fun, Ours is RC's

Well these so called friends are the one who got me back into the hobby. My buddies younger brother bought a new T-MAXX last year. So i went and got one too thinking it would be a fun thing for all of us to do. Low and behold his wife hates the things so now their trucks just sit on the shelf cuz they don't wanna listen to her bitch. then they wanna critcise me cuz I'm still into it.

That's because they're jealous! You're out running your truck and they can't because the real person wearing the pants in the family doesn't like it when they do.

Me, I've got three of the full size "toys" out in the garage and spend a lot of time out there working on them, and money too. R/C was just a way for me to have some scale fun, and like many here, always wanted a hobby grade car/truck after having the plastic crap as a kid (and I'm almost 42!).

My wife says it all the time. I make the money (majority of it anyway) and as long as the bills are paid, there's a roof over our head, and there's food in the fridge for us and the kids, I have the right to "play" in the garage. She knows where I'm at and what I'm doing and doesn't have to worry or wonder.

Clearly they are just jealous...
My gilrfriend spend $400au on my old Maxx and now shes lost interest...
I get stuck into her tellin her now she has spent the $$$ she should get a little more fun outta it...
I wld take it off her hands but she painted it pink and purple ...

My old man tries to convince me to sell my rigs from time to time, but that will never happen. Wants me to invest the dough in my '92 Ranger. Yeah right. He sees the $1000 or so I've spent in the last couple of years and thinks that is what everything is still worth. I just explain to him, over and over, that the $400 or so I could get by selling everything is gonna take $1200 to replace. That gets him off my back. It wouldn't be a problem if he had any idea what he was talking about.:)

I was catching too much slack (fiancee) for buying 350z mods so I switched back to rc again for the rest of the season.
