Question about a Temp. Gun

Why do guys worry about temps?I have tuned engines all my life with no temp gun.And I have never messed up an engine. It's all in
the sound of the engine and the amount of smoke coming from the exhaust. The pinch test works great for the LSN setting..
Just my 2 cents worth.

Well I think its a bit more idiot proof because just about anyone can take the temp. If it’s too high they can richen it up a little or if it’s lower than it should be lean it out a little more with out fear of burning up the engine. Not saying that people who use temp guns are idiots or anything, I use one. The temp gun makes engine tuning more of a procedure rather than a developed skill.

It's just more percise. Every engine is diffrent in the amount of smoke and temp it has. MY storm was runnign a little ont he rich side and hit 384 degre. Technology solves everything, lol.
