Hey Roger.. Have you or anyone had any problems with the steering rack bearings?? I only have 4 tanks of fuel through it ( just breaking in the motor and not racing ), and I noticed the steering binding up.. I checked the rack bearings and one was locked up..

Make 100% sure ALLLLLLLLLLLL Dirt is removed. Dont be afraid to use wd40.

I finally got around to shimming the diffs this past weekend and noticed a few oddities. Not sure if this is correct but at any rate it is different than the instructions indicate.

1. Only the Center Diff had a single red o-ring. None present in the Front and rear diffs

2. the front and rear diff did not have the gasket that separates the two halfs of the diffs

After adding the shims I just reassembled the difss as they wee. Am I going to run into problems later? Is this correct?

Thanx in advance,
Dj

Roger - No, I checked the screws when the car was brand new.. I only had 4 tanks threw the motor breaking it in and noticed the steering was binding up.. I ripped apart the rack and found the left lower rack bearing locked up.. I tryed to clean it, but it was frozen.. Funny thing is that both seals were still there and the bearing had plenty of grease.. Anyway, I bought a set of Boca bearings for the rack last night.. No big deal..

Roger or anyone at PRP - I finally got around to shimming my diffs last night.. The front and center diff went smoothly, but then I get started on the rear diff and I notice there isn't any play in the outdrives of the rear diff.. I thought thats crazy, and I wondered why.. Come to find out the rear diff is already shimmed up.. So just for extra measure I rip it down to double check everything.. Everything looked good.. Its just seems very strange that the front and center diffs didn't have any shims, but the rear diff was already done.. Whats up with that guys??

xtribe00 - That sounds very weird.. Sounds like your diffs got built on a Friday afternoon just before everyone was leaving for the weekend!!

Heh heh, good luck dude. What I will say though is watch everything he does, even ask questions. Ignore the laughable shinanagins at the back of the field, if you want to get good, watch the best and see yourself doing exactly the same.

According to Green Flag's route planner, there is less than 40 miles of road between you and the new track at Preston MCC. Unfortunately there is the small matter of 80 miles of Irish Sea and a 6 hour ferry crossing to contend with. Never mind...
...and 250 Quid return with the car!!! (it's about 3 hours each way to Liverpool on the seacat).

That IS an expensive afternoons racing.

Jay: Thats very interesting and good news. Shoot me an e-mail or PM me.

Hey I had the exact same problems with the breaking. All I had to do is move in that little coupler at the end of the breaking rod and take out all the slack. As first there is a bit of drag but not much and it burned off after a pass or two. I have not had to touch it since.

Don't psyic your self out about it. It is really that easy. I had to have another track junky convince me. It worked like a charm....

Let me know if it works.

So, I finished breaking in the car yesterday, got the idle woes ironed out, got the brakes ironed out (the servo just isn't strong enough to deal with the spring on the throttle linkage, so I had to re-set the breaks a little closer till I get a new servo), and got my tuning nailed down pretty much. I have some street tires that I put on it and took it to a nice big open parking so that I could make sure I was hitting the highest RPM possible in the temp range and I could also get a general idea for how it handles now that I am hitting those speeds. It's off to the track VERY soon! I can't wait!

I have another question for you guys...

From a cold start, it seems to take longer than I am used to (on a .15 motor) to get warmed up to be able to hit those high RPM's and get max speed out of it... is this right, or should I be able to nail the tune better (obviously it will need tweaking all of the time anyway, but I mean, is this normal or not)? It just seems like it needs to be every bit of ~250-255 to hit those R's. Should I do something slightly different with the tune?

Also, what are you guys doing to the front bumper? I have read on every review on this thing that it will dig hard on landings... what are you guys doing to re-shape them? Do any of you possibly have a pic of what you have done to it so I can see? If not, can you explain please? Thanx guys!

Check your e-mail Roger..

Last night I finally got around to breaking in the motor.. I got about a half a gallon through it just last night tuning and getting it ready to race..

Roger - I seem to have another issue with the Swift.. The outdrives for the front and rear diff are womped right out.. Center diff is fine.. Now I was reading quite a few pages back in this tread and people were saying there is a outdrive problem ( not hard enough ).. So is the outdrive problem fixed and are there new updated outdrives available?? If so can we exchange the ones that are already on the car??

Other than that the redone shocks, diffs, and universals all held up good for the half gallon that went threw it last night..

I think we're getting the new outdrives on the next shipment from China. Those few of us who received prototypes have used them with good results.

Here's some pictures from the nationals

3rd place in the I-main? Well done!

Is that front bumper just the original with a bit of Dremel-assisted reshaping or is there a suitable donor vehicle for this part?

That's a GS bumper that is massaged with a dremel tool. The holes need to be re-drilled, and some material behind the bumper needs to be cut away, but it's worth the effort. Works way better than the stock one. XXXzayas' car is pictured above.

I drive on-road most of the time, getting used to jumps is a pain in the wazoo. Shoulda won the I (worst finish ever at a big event. sigh) but my engine flamed out. Twice. "It's never the driver's fault."

Hey guys sorry about my sabbatical from the forum, I have been really swamped at work, plus I am regaining my energy from the race. I really wish we would have done better at the race, but we spent way too much time getting a setup for the car, and testing the new stuff. By the main time the car was actually pretty good. I ended up winning that main by an entire lap over the field, but we where DQ'd because the tank was over 125cc. We where barely over, so I will be adding fuel tubing to the tank. I really wish we could back now with what we know, we would do a lot better. The good news is that the car was pretty good by the end of the weekend, and our setup is very close for those types of tracks.

With that said, let me know if you guys have any questions.

JZ

It's great that you guys went up there and raced the Swift. I hope it generates a lot of interest in the product. Nice pictures too, got any more for us to see?

Just took a peek inside the front diff housing on my car. The crown wheel and pinion appear to be running dry. Is there any mileage in using a small amount of black moly (MS3) grease in there?

Niggle: I run mine dry, but you could add a small amount of diff oil. Hope this helps.

JZ

Yeah! Front bumper... I want one! What can I do with mine in the meantime? Does someone have a pic of what I need to take off of it? I would really appreciate it. Also... tuning... anyone have a suggestion here? Thanx!

BTW, Good job Jose!

WA2Fast: It is a bumper from a GS Storm. It requires some dremeling but nothing to bad, once you get it just match itto your existing one.

Roger: No problem bud, BTW did you ship the motors I sent with Gary.

JZ

i'm looking to buy a buggy soon an diw as wondering how is the engine on the swift? reliable, easy to tune, powerful, etc? thanks
