I'm seeing that a lot of the option parts for the Ultima are either unavailable or ridiculously priced and listed as "last one". Just trying to figure out a plan!
Your talking the kyosho Ultima. I see parts for it all the time. I got the Pro X I'm always looking for parts. Carbon fiber filament isn't the way you would want to go it's too brittle. You want something strong and flexible. @WickedFog knows I'm trying to do the same. He's the guru of printing. I've been researching this for a while you want to use nylon, PETG. Here a couple articles I've read about this topic...

Scanners are still expensive and have a ways to go from what I've seen. The only thing I wish I had one for is faces, would be cool to do custom figures for our rc's.
The Aerospace shop I worked at had a scanner that was acurate to a few tenths of a thou supposedly. They used to scan the molds we made with them and I always wished I could play around with it. But they damn near brought that onto the floor with an armed escort lol.

Is there a scanner that we could use to effectively scan parts for our RCs and print carbon fiber parts ourselves?
if the part is simple enough you can use a PC printer/scanner to get a 2d image of it and with a little file translation you can download it into your cad software of choice to address the 3d aspects.. Especially plate style parts are easy to duplicate via this method . Shock towers, motor plates, battery straps, etc .. I have used this method for making sure bolt patterns on things I am reverse engineering are correct..

You can also just use some carbon fiber pieces. Or some sheet metal and cut them you self using a drill press with a cutter bit or a jig saw. Messure twice cut once slightly bigger and use dremel with sanding drum to finalize the piece. Which I will be doing for same pieces. Pieces of carbon fiber are cheap these days. Can get them anywhere really. Should be some fun projects coming up soon. I love building RC's. Though my printer will come in handy as well once I learn to use the cad program fusion 360. Then be able to make whatever I want when ever I want. Will be my own manufacturer 😉👍🤣🤣

They have "carbon fiber" filament, but it's not like it's really carbon fiber. It's plastic with ground up carbon fibers in it. The whole point of carbon fiber is that it's a weave of material with superior tensile strength, not just because the fibers, but the weave makes it stronger also. When you chop that poop up and throw it in some plastic, it doesn't do poop to make the plastic stronger. It just destroys your nozzle on your printer 😉

Yeah , I own a CNC router , I dont cut carbon fiber in my home.. period.. I value my lungs thanks..keep cutting that carbon fiber without a good filtration system ...

Yeah, it's bad stuff. It never leaves your lungs. I worked in a carbon fiber shop for a couple years. Even wearing a nice 3m respirator, I still think I got lung damage just working there.

Had to go to the hospital one day when a tiny sliver the doc couldn't even see got in my eye. I was just coming in to work. There was always s breeze in there from the gazillion cfm dust collection system, and it blew a piece right in my eye. Gawd that sucked ass.

yeah carbon fiber PLA is about useless because the layer bonding is on par with silks .. purely aesthetic for trinkets.. About the only place I have seen carbon fiber of any real use is if you have machine to print either polycarbonate/CF or Nylon/CF.. That is actually my next goal .. is to build a machine that will print PC/CF and Nylon /CF

Even that stuff isn't going to be strengthened by the fibers in it. It's just naturally tough material. The layers are always going to be the weakest point on a 3d print. And the fibers don't cross those.

First off who the hell said I cut it indoor jackas*. I cut outdoor with a respirator on. And I also use a little water in a spray bottle. Where did I say anything about cutting it un safe.. or in my F-1ing house. Do you see any cut lines in that piece NO you don't. How bout you don't jump to conclusions before you know the $-ing facts newbie.
Just because I took a pic of the carbon in garage. Don't mean sh*t

Newbie?? LMFAO!!! How about you go take the meds you forgot to take a dose of psycho.. You even said you use dremel finish sand it out.. and I quote.. "and use dremel with sanding drum to finalize the piece." .. You ARE breathing it.. that sanding drum and the fan on the dremel are blowing dust all over... Not SAFE at all ... Like Wicked , I work with machining CF on the daily and know what it takes to properly work with it safely on the daily, and I said no thanks I dont care to huff that.. and let me be clear here.. I received e-mails telling me this is per the usual for you to "kirk out " like a spoiled 5 year old.. so I wont be responding to you any longer.. have a nice day..

Supposedly losi was going to make a printer and sell models but apparently that didn't make it past a blurb announcement.
