When I was into muscle cars, and the Subaru Imprezzas came out, there were younger guys hopping them up. Some pretty fast ones out there are absolute sleepers that will hit 9's in the 1/4 mile, and you would never know it. I raced one at the strip. I was running high 12's at the time. I beat a guy in an Imprezza. The next time I ran he was in the other lane again, but he turned his boost up. Dude disappeared into the horizon sounding like a 747 taking off.

Not that great when you blow a head gasket 😬
They put metal o-rings in heads at the machine shops with copper gaskets just for that - high boost/high compression builds.

Yea yeah yeah for those builds. But for the ones getting into cars and start modding, boost on factory engine, ka poof. Bye bye head gaskets 😅

Going back to the tuner days, if I remember with my uncles civic. He went from the stock D15? 1.5L to a B18 1.8L, and then to a B20 2.0L. All N/A. Just a fun project 😊

It still has a B20 but now with a hole in the block 🫠

I knew a young engineer that pushed over 800hp out of a stock MR2 block. And you can add boost to just about any engine without blowing it up. You just have to know its limitations.
