well i went and cut up one of my sisters socks, and i tried loosening the glow plug to create the air leak to get the engine to heat up faster. lets just say i had it at 102 degrees, then it dropped to 98 degrees with the loosened plug. do i lean it up now?

1 first off are you using a os hot plug.
2 next unless its cold out were you live no need to put a sock on it or foil
3 with this engine just get it to idle a tank before you start to break in.
4 once you get the engine to run with out shutting off start break in.

i just started using my os30vg about 2 weeks ago. had some problems but a big one was plug i was using
with the idle at stock just bump it up a hair. lean out the hsn a hair also just so it will idle for a tank then return to stock settings..
I'm on my 8th tank and its a ripper no socks or foil and its about 50.F here when I'm running.and engine runs at about 245f little low but I'm still takeing it easy.

i would say the biggest problem was not having right plug with the os30vg

Also, make sure to tighten the glow plug back up once it's running. The compression and vibration will be hard on the threads otherwise.

I've used a sock when its 80F outside just to get the temps up quicker and keep them up while it's still rich. By the time I get to the third tank, I like the engine to be at least at 200F. If I need to lean it out to get there, I do. I don't go nuts, but I do lean it a bit.

I had issues getting my LRP28 up to 200F by the third tank even with a sock. By tank 8, it was much more stable and it was lean enough to run at 210F pretty easily.

Break in is never fun. Don't rush any more than necessary if at all.

oh ok. i thought it had to be 200 at every tank in break in. i'd still like to get it up more so it stays running. i do tighten the plug up.

I also never let it "idle" through a tank. For the first few tanks, I don't go over 1/2 throttle, but I drive it around and slowly apply throttle with an occasional blip to clear the pipe a bit. I drive it until the temps seem to peak (first tank generally around 150F), then I drive it at that temp for about a minute, then I shut it down. By tank 3, I'm typically at 200F, but I do many starts/stops and cool downs within each tank.

k well ill just continue to run it tank by tank and see what happens. thanks for the help guys,

if you can't prime the engine by blocking the exhaust port you might have an airleak, that should always be an airtight system....I know it's a brandy newbie engine but did you seal the backplate and carb throat?

well actually, i havnt tried covering the pipe with this engine. i forgot it was my old s25(when i 1st got the truck and it ran) hat didnt do that.
