I have a TRX 3.3 nitro engine. I was just finishing up resealing my engine and was reattaching my flywheel after installing the front bearings (via oven method) and while I was wrenching down on it, the channel lock pliers i had on the flywheel itself slipped and scraped over the little grooves on the edge of the flywheel. now there is a small "bald" spot on the edge of the flywheel. I was concerned as to whether or not I should replace the flywheel or will it run ok with this scrape?

I was thinking that when the engine is doing 20k rpm, that small bit of metal that was scraped off might do some serious damage to the new front bearing I just installed, not to mention perhaps excess vibration? I'm basically looking for someone who has done this (accidently slipped their pliers on the flywheel) and whether or not they ran the engine with the same flywheel or they ended up getting a new one altogether.

If I have to get a new one, or it is recommended to save the longevity of the engine, then I have a followup question, I was interested in getting a 3 shoe clutch kit, are there any particular brands you guys can recommend?

I've seen and ran some pretty scared up flywheels with no issues. if it took a chunk i could see replacing, but just knocking the teeth off, i think your ok.

mip has had some good clutches, and surprisingly I've heard good things about the integy clutch.

You should be fine. Buy a cheap flywheel tool though. It will save you from making mistakes like this. I use a cheapy OFNA that I got for like $5 :-)

like beason said, the integy clutch is surprisingly very good. The MIP one seemed rather brittle and didn't last that long. I switched over to the integy 3 shoe and it worked GREAT. (This was on a 3.3 Slayer)

Use the integy in t-maxx 3.3 and losi .26. Never had a problem. I did sled pulls with my losi, so i would take off the clutch-bell and scrape up the shoes before each run.
