Ok this is for those of you who want to put an O.S. 18 TM in your REVO. I got tired of waiting around for Tower Hobbies to get my TM w/Revo Manifold in so I got the TM with the T-Maxx Manifold. Both of these motors are the same with 2 exceptions. One the heat fins on the bottom of the Revo version are rounded off, and the Exhaust Manifold of course. Other than that I believe they are the same.

So what I did was purchase the engine mount and exhaust manifold from new era models. The so called drop in motor is not quite that simple. There was some modification I had to do.

For starters the Throttle arm ball link was to short. What I ended up doing is using the throttle ball link from my TRX 2.5 it's a little shaky due to the fact that the circumference is larger than O.S's, but it works.

Second, even though I used that throttle arm I still need to shim the linkage. I used 2, 1mm washers to boost the height of the linkage. I also had to adjust the angle of the carb to correct any binding.

The next thing I noticed was that the manifold needed to be customized. I had to cut a slice off the rubber seal in order to allow the easy start to fit and I had to grind down some of the manifold flat. Lastly, I need to construct a new exhaust mount to allow for the different angle of the exhaust. I used a long metal rod, heated it to bend and fabricated a nice stiff mounting bracket. Other than that I was a direct fit

Break in

I just had my first run of this today. Wow does it have a ton more power. I still need to break it in more but I can tell this is going need wheelie bar

HOw do you compare it to the 2.5r?
Faster? more punch? Better bottom-end?
After getting beat on a deal for a Revo i desidedd to just buy new and build it from ground up and was wondering if this motor is the one to get compared to the stock 2.5r

Better than 2.5

I would say compared to the 2.5r the .18 TM has more everything. More power for sure! I can pull wheelies which I could Never do with the 2.5r. Not only that, after running all day the hottest that thing ever got was 239 degrees (F). On average it ran at 212 degrees (F). My 2.5r would normally run at 240 degrees (F) and get up to 260+. The O.S. runs much smother to idle's much better. The only problem with this engine is the price. But I got it at tower for about $197 after there $30 rebate and free shipping (not to metion no tax).

:2cents:

Tower Hobbies is located in Champaign, IL and you are also in IL so YOU get to pay tax haha

i saw 1 w/this motor in it i believe. think 1 had it and 1 had a sirio. and as impressive as the 2.5 is, boy this things had it covered. it gave the revo guys a chance against the truggies.

DJ, how did you break yours in? The OS book just seems pretty vague to me, especially for the first tank. The traxxas break-in was pretty much idiot proof but this ones got me a little worried, i just don't want to screw it up. I thought about calling them, but it looks like your dialing straight to Japan.

I just ran it rich for the first 3 tanks. kept the throttle light. no open throttle for those first 3 and then I was ready to roll. The OS engines are good like that.

Mine is great. I have a buggy with a Force .26 in it and to be honest it is faster but i would not want something that big in my revo. It would be upside down all the time. As it is the .18 will flip it. I LOVE IT!!!!

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to drop mine in, but I'm not going to do it until the weather warms up a little. I'm not going to try to break it in in 30 degree weather.

I have two buddies with the TM in their trucks. The engine is a monster compared to the 2.5r. However, I also got to witness an awsome revo mill today. The new RB .23. It just can't be beat for $250 bucks. You get a ez start compatible engine that is already bolted to a new engine mount. A header, and a nice new tuned pipe. And did I mention it was an RB. Only draw back I see to this engine is a shorter run time. However I'm thinking it'll need to be dialed back to maybe 75% throttle just to keep the rubber on the ground, so run time might not be that big of an issue.

I personally decided that I just had to have a revo after seeing what they are capable of with the TM, but now that I've scene one with the RB in it, I just have to have one. I'm so ruined right now that I might even sale my 1/10th stuff to really concentrait on revo racing. :D
