Thanks for trying to explain "floating" Zandor. I am guessing it it something to do with the heat after firing the gun a few times? If there isn't clearance it won't let the barrel expand right?
Sorry for the stupid questions. Thanks for having the patience to help.

Nice Christmas present. My ol lady bought the last gun I have for my birthday a few years back.

Our gun laws here are cash and carry. The federal check, which takes about 30 minutes. There are a lot of gun ads in our classified paper. Quite a few gun traders at the local flea markets too. So it is pretty easy to puchase a firearm here.

Must be nice! I told my wife I did not want a B-day present because x-mas was coming and taxes yada yada - so she goes out and buys a $250 purse... go figure

Well you Didn't say SHE couldn't have a present...You just said YOU didn't want one.....man learn the legal jargon of "wife-ease" speak and life goes alot smoother :D

Very nice, Zandor. Nice choice in scopes, too. I notice the dog is all ready to go as well. The 7mm mags are becoming more popular again.

BTW, the waiting period is 10 days after getting a DOJ permit and passing a gun safety course. Also, you cannot sell a gun private party to private party, you must use a gun dealer. We also have a "gun list" which lists which guns, very specifically, can be sold in CA. For instance, the list updates every year, and not only does it list what can be sold, but also what needs to be registered if a certain gun is being outlawed (grandfathering those already purchased). For example, the .50 BMG's.

OK, this is going to seem like a stupid question.
Why do you want the barrel to "float?" Please explain how you do it and why or point me to a link that explains it.

I know, I'm a 43yr old idiot.
But I don't hunt, so I haven't had a need for a rifle. Got 4 handguns and an old WW1 Jap rifle that I have never shot. But I'm interested. Been thinking of getting a rifle to mess with.

A free floating barrel will shoot truer longer then one that is bedded against the stock, as you fire the barrel heats up and so does the stock this heat can cause the barrel to move (even if its just a tiny bit). The stock will also expand be it wood or composit (and cause more movement). A composit stock will not expand as much as a wood stock does under the same amount of heat, thats why alot off ppl like composit stocks so much, and also why ppl want free floating barrels.

Oh and very nice weapon you have there
