I just got a new LRP Z.28 Spec 3 for my XSS.....I was going to break it in this weekend but there is a slight problem of a typhoon and 100mph winds. Any ideas? :depress::depress:LOL. I will let you all know how it is when it is running. Heard lots of good things. We shall see.

I have herd good things also....mine came in yesterday but a tropical storm was passing through....Coincidence?

All I can say is preheat the engine and loosen the plug 1/4 turn before starting. The first 4-5 tanks are kind of finicky and make it hard to start. If my engine head was below 90F, it didn't want to start for break-in. I kept putting it under the heater in my 1:1 car and letting it get around 90-100F. Then it would start.

After about 1500cc's, it starts running/starting better. After about 2500, it runs great. The power really starts coming on around 3/4 gallon and peaked around 1.5 gallons. I've run right around 3 through mine so far. Still has loads of compression and power. Holds a tune really easy as well. It starts easy now, typically just a pull or two when the carb is primed.

For break-in, I found that 25% nitro worked much easier than 20%. I ran the first few tanks trough with 20% and it was a bear. I've only run 25% through it since and it seems to really like it.

I've only had one so far. If it makes it to 7-8 gallons, I'll certainly buy another when the time comes.

I got three rounds of heat cycle through it Thursday, it was a PITA to get it to start the first time but after that is wasn't too bad. I had to lean the HSN 1/4 turn for it to run...still very very rich! I put a few drops of ARO and preheated it to 135 but this was the hardest engine to start that I ever had.

Getting the clutch bell on was also a PITA (Losi Aftershock), stock collet was too short and the one that came with the engine was too long...nothing a dremel couldn't fix!

Hopefully I'll finish the break in later today.

I finished my break in and this thing is a monster. I pre-heated mine to around 150-170 with a heat gun then started 'er up. It was not too bad on starting other than pull-starts and the roll hoop on a XSS sucks. Way hard to get too. I have the roto-start back plate on the way. That should help out a bit. The break in went very smooth other than it was hard keeping the temp up.
I put on the HPI wheelie bar since I heard this was such a strong engine. That was a waste....it flips right over the darn thing. Also Robinson extra hard clutch bell and aluminum shoes are on the way too......the LRP ATE my stock HPI clutch bell. Steel spur gear machined a groove through the teeth...and yes it was meshed correctly. So great engine......OMG the power it has though. I love it. Just need parts now...lol

a buddy of mine just ordered this engine yesterday. i'll be sure to warn him about getting the engine head temp up. how would u guys just the quality of parts? and is it true the LRP and axial 28 are made in the same place, just a differ carb (3 needle vs. 2 needle) and different head color?

If it is true, it's tough to believe... The stability of tune and the amount of power of the LRP28 S3 is leaps and bounds over the axial 28 S1.

When my LRP wears out (don't see that anytime soon), I'll pull it apart and compare it to the axial I gave up on and see if the case, crank, piston, sleeve and con-rod have any differences.

I have both the Axial and LRP. I do like my Axial, for me it has been a very stable mill. But power the LRP is much stronger. As far as I know they are not made by the same people. Regardless of who really makes it....it is a damn good engine. IMO the best for the money. The quality looked real good to me.....good fit and finish.

I agree this engine is a beast! The temps are a little on the low side for my liking but it absolutely screams. I have never had an mt that would pull so hard when it shifts into second gear.

As far as HP goes I would say no not too much. However the LRP made more for bashing than racing. .....the hypers are pretty light I think you would have a hard time hooking up to the ground. I have a buddy with a Jammin X1 CRT with a LRP....it is almost pointless. He has a hard time getting traction. If you want speed get a smaller engine.....raw stupid power....LRP. But would I do it....heh heh heh.....sure. I play to have fun not race.....Power=Fun.
