Hey Guys,

I am nearing the stage where it is time to prep and paint the shell for my new CRT. I picked up a Tear Away style paint mask from XXX Main yesterday at the LHS. I am having quite a difficult time choosing two colors to paint it. The wheels and wing on this truck are bright chartruse and it is hard to find a color that will mesh well with it, especially with a tear away theme. Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions? Ofna paints it a guady bunch of colors .. well in my mind anyway. Thanks for the help.

Tom

It scares me that you know what color chartruse is.

I'm assuming its a toned down version of the Kyosho Green/Yellow? I would just try to go with the same color...maybe make the main body color something dark (blue, black, etc...) then make the tear away color the same as the wing and such.

Here's a few colors you could use..
Floro Blue, Floro Yellow, Floro purple, white, black

Knowing what color chartruse is, is not that scary. I love to fish and it seems all the hot baits I use have chartruse heads, or grubs. Thanks for the info guys I will check out the site and see if I can't put together a real nice combo. Thanks again.

Tom

Best to paint one end a very contrasting color to the other end. Helps keep your eyes straight whenthe truck is out on the far ends of the track. Also, what color is your wing?

LOL I was thinking the same thing, I always keep some chartreuse jigs and spinner baits in the tackle box. I like white and Flor purple together, I think it would go well with the chartreuse. :2cents:

Tom, look in the body thread at my latest paint job. :D

I can use white or yellow (chartrauseeeesssss) wheels or wing with it.

How about looking at some of the web sites that make the bodies? Pro-Line and those places. Also some of the sites that have the painting tuturials on them? Some of the places that sell pre-painted bodies? All of them have pics that might help you come up with some color scheme ideas.

I'm pretty "artistically challenged" myself. (Damn, I can't even spell that and I are.)

I still don't see your post in the contest bro..... Come on man, it'll be fun as hell, you'll see. Don't worry about everyone talking smack. (They will anyway.) Maybe we can at least place in the WTF class?

fluo geen and fluo yellow drips over a black or dark color will look good with this rims, another good combination might be fluo green with white.

In fact any combination that has fluo green

Ok my friend, you talked me into it! I will post a pic of the clear lid and the date. Then I will work on some color choices and paint that lid! I may not make the competition deadline since I really missed the December 31st cutoff date. I will paint it and post it anyway. Thanks for the vote of confiedence my friend!

Hey Revo,

My wing is the same color as the wheels..... bright ass yellow. LOL

I am going to check out untchbl's thread and look at a couple of others here as well as all the great ideas you guys have given me to see if I can't come up with something. I just want the lid to look as good as the whole truck! LOL I just don't think I can do this with rattle cans though. I will give it my best!

Dude... you have got some talent bro! I just wish I had an airbrush. Thank you for the ideas.

Tom

Hey guys,

I have to do this lid with rattle cans so I won't be able to fade this, but I was thinking since I am doing a tear away theme... I could start with a flo yellow, and then move to dark blue, and then end with black or silver? then undercoat the whole thing in sliver or white to fuel proof. What do you guys think? Thanks

Tom

Hey Tom, have you seen this? http://www.rccaraction.com/articles/htShake_1.asp Don't know why they are painting on the outside? Maybe to make the pics clearer? I think a person could get pretty creative with the rattle cans. Hope that is a little help.

I've got a little Badger airbrush. Used it once or twice. But I don't have the talent or imagination to use it. It blows my mind some of paint jobs these guys do.
Good luck with it Bro.:)

Thanks bro... I will check out that site. I have heard of folks painting on the outside of lids to give the effect of a truck teanu cover. I know what you mean about the imagination part.... I am right there with ya. I bet my 4 year old could come up with a better color combo... hey maybe I will ask him! LOL Good luck to you as well my friend. I think we will all have fun.

Tom

Hey Guys,

Here are the only three lids I have ever painted. They were all done with rattle cans. Here goes nothing....

The silver and red at the bottom are actually painted on. It took forever to get a piece of masking tape that even. This is on my TMaxx

Finally this is the latest lid I painted over the summer. This one also on my TMaxx

Well guys I told you I was not artistic! LOL

Tom

The T maxx bodies look nice and clean, the color choice of the last one is good,:)

If that is the way you are going to paint, don't worry about winning the contest.

I know I have the WTF category sewed up!:winnar:
Is that the worst you can do?:)

Thanks guys. Those are just the lids I actually kept! I didn't take pics of the ones I threw away. Actually I have only thrown one away so far. I guess we all have to learn somewhere. Thanks for the complements on the lids. I just took my time and did the best I could. Nothing really complicated. I still think I am going to give you a run for you money on the WTF category!, and you are right... I don't have to worry about winning the contest. LOL :) Take care my friend.
