I recently upgraded my Revo 2.5 to the OS 18tm motor. It is very hard to get started. I've reset the carb setting(s) to the factory specs but it still won't start. Any advice?

If the engine was sitting for a long peroid of time, the gas my have dried up in the carb. Use some carb clean and compressed air and blow everything out and make sure its clean, also make sure you have a good glow plug

We could use a little more info. Is it BRAND new? Has it been started at all? Have you completed the break in? What glo plug, what fuel? Do you need to prime it? Have you checked for air leaks, or clogged fuel filter.
Fill us in on the details, and we'll try to get you up and running.

Oh, and welcome to RCNT. There's a lot of info here, from a lot of informed members.

If it's brand-new, check the idle air opening. It should be around half a millimeter at idle.

Assuming that is correct, watch the fuel line and make sure it's drawing fuel.

Assuming it draws fuel, try upping the idle just a hair (about 5% or so). Try again.

If that doesn't do it, lean the low end needle about 1/8th of a turn, just until it starts, then richen back up again.

Hope that helps!

Just noticed 'used'. When you turn the flywheel, do you get a good amount of resistance, and then a good pop? That's compression. If you know how much fuel has been through it, and how 'used' it is, that might help.

I recall factory settings being extremely rich on mine when it was new. I could guess that it might be possible it's too rich for a used mill as well.

Motor was bought, broken in and ran by a buddy since May '07. (trusted)
He ran Odonnels (??) 30% fuel in his T-Maxx, he could hardly keep all fours on the ground when he had it.
It sat in the T-maxx in the garage for a few weeks before I bought it.
He ran the stock Traxxas glow plug, same as I.
I have changed plugs, decharged, conditioned & recharged the battery for the ez-start.
**The blue o-ring in the fuel tank lid keeps getting pinched in a way I assume it is not sealing.
On occasion (when starting) it sounds like it wants to fire but NOT all the time.
I get my hopes up when I prime it because the motor noise changes and appears to rev.
With the filter off, during prime the carb spits fuel, but that is the only time.
Compression, sounds good. Sounds like my 2.5r but meatier when I spin it by hand.

I will make the suggested adjustments and get back to ya'll tomorrow.

Thanks again for ALL of the suggestions!

Based on the fuel tank o-ring being pinched, I would verify its' sealing. That could cause a problem with the engine not being able to draw sufficient amount of fuel.

Take the blue wire off the sleazy start and use an ignitor. The plugs never seemed to get hot enough with that setup.

yea the hand wands seem to stop juice going to the glow ignitor wire when the wand battery gets low. kind of like an early warning i guess you could say. every time my ignitor wire stopped firing the motor, but would still spin it, i found the battery was close to needing a charge. i like it but ended up not liking the maxx much anymore. (shameless plug) i have 2 Tmaxx Rollers for sale if anyone is interested.

I agree with that. A dedicated glow ignitor and the easy start just to spin it. That's how I always started mine. When you're trying to spin the motor, that's less current getting to the plug. If the EZ is starting to slow down, you get very little glow on the plug. A hot plug with a good ignitor solves a lot of picky starting problems.
