My comp constantly tells me it recommends automatic updates. I keep turning them on and it keeps turning them off.
What to do?

Win 7

I haven't been able to get updates in a few weeks. Any help? I can't even get them manually since it tells me the service is turned off.

I attempted to download and run the Win 7/8 Update trouble shooter and it gives me an error message that it's unable to start.

@Rolex,
First copy the below code:
Code:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Then click on Start > All Programs > Accessories and then right click on "Command Prompt" and click on "Run as Administrator". When the command prompt opens, right click in the black area and select "Paste" then press ENTER.

Next copy the below code:
Code:
sc config wuauserv start = auto

And paste is in the same command prompt window as above and press ENTER.

Restart the computer for fun then see if Windows Updates is good to go.

Thanks, @WoodiE. I'll do that. What would cause this issue?
Looking at pony porn is typically the root cause for Windows Updates to go funky. I would recommend not looking anymore.

But really there could be a number of reasons. It's hard to say what exactly has caused it. Could be malware, virus, or if you pirate software some "patches" or "cracks" could also be to blame. It could also be some kind of corruption causing the system to be funky. All sorts of reasons.

Def sounds like malware. They've gone after your ability to upgrade and therefore 'out-do' their craptastic program! Pony porn didn't cause any issues on my system so I'm guessing it's more likely something to do with zebras. Wildlife for sure tho! :p:hehe:

I'm really glad to hear that. I was really worried about that site. Someone suggested it might be from Kitty porn. Here's an example:

It took a few tries to get it right, but it's now back to where it should be. Thank you, thank you.

There is a 'safe mode' correct? Have you tried starting it in safe mode and running an update? There may be a fix for it.

I only do anything in Safe Mode as a last resort. I have over a hundred icons on my desktop in specific groupings, and any time I've had to use safe mode they end up all over the place and totally out of order.

Ok. I can't help you with the icon organization. With over 100, I can see that being a pain to fix!

Have you considered putting them in temporary folders before doing anything in safe mode? It might help keep them sorted.
