List Race #4 in the books!
Upon arriving we were blessed with great news - that we would be running at the spot that the RCHRA event was a couple of weeks ago, much closer to the main track area. The owner wanted to showcase us, and since there was no drift racing on this day we were not in the way. In fact, he even wants to coordinate and help us promote, which is going to be awesome. We got set up pretty quickly.
There was even tape marks and a groove left over from the RCHRA event! Nice
Guys were all there pretty early to TnT. Missing a few due to health (get well big Mike!) and work, and one due to a horrific traffic jam on the Bay Bridge apparently. But we had a decent turnout overall for the most part, and quite a few people came over to watch and ask and get information.
The weather was supposed to be great. 81, partly cloudy, wind 5-10. No rain. Sure. Not long after we set up, we knew something was off. Wind was howling and we had to put blocks on the tents to hold them down. We got to cleaning the track with the blowers, brooms, and the new power broom I bought. Started getting some TnT in, but despite all of the effort, the early passes were dicey and slick. However, a groove started forming and better passes were being made. Then...the raindrops started. Then...it began raining steadily.
We saw that it looked it would pass in a couple of hours. So, much like the full sized racers, we just hung out and chilled. Except for me and a couple of others. We took this opportunity to use the powerbroom and really scrub the track clean! Then the rain stopped, and we waited for it to dry. Somewhat, lol. Guys were anxious and started making passes on the wet track for fun.
Eventually the lanes started getting a good dry groove, and we started making some decent passes. Nothing earth shattering, as by the time the track was dry, the sun was getting low, and the moisture in the air was settling on the track. We did have about 20 minutes of some pretty good stuff.
Final race of the list was for the top spot. Invader II vs Junkyard for the third time. The cars had one win each to this point. The above shot really captures the scene.
Junkyard had been making great passes all day long, Invader II had not really had one without pedaling. On this race, the tables turned, and I snagged the top spot back with a solid (no nitrous) pass with Junkyard knocking the tires off.
We spent the rest of the evening grudge racing and having a great time in the twilight, only stopping when it was too dark to see the cars in the shutdown.
Next month is the final list race for 2024, then it's a series of cash day events to close thing out in the Fall.
We got a decent amount of video - not nearly as much as I wanted, but it's a start for what will be an edited episode of our little "RC Street Outlaws" show on YouTube.
