help me pick out a first car!

is there a site that lists hobby shops for florida? i am interested in buying a RTR kit and using it for fun occasionally, my friend might buy one too and there is a track not far from me for nitro cars....

a few questions..... are the cars high maintenence?
what would be the best deal for a starter, and how much should i expect to pay?

last one: these cars seem to go sorta fast...... what do u do if u hit a wall? does the shell break?

Ask NitroAddict (a member of this forum) for help on the Hobby Shop scene in Orlando.

Are the cars high maintenance? Depends on how you define High, but yes, they do require work and attention.

I'll let someone who owns a street car or two answer the which one is the best to start with question.

Most cars have a bumper as well as the shell. Though designed to handle most impacts, full speed into a wall tends to do some damage. Yes, the shell may break. The bumper and some of the other things beneath that shell are also sure to see some damage.

When I visited Orlando, there were a couple in the area. I can't recall the exact names and locations but there are definitely a couple.

One is pretty close to Universal Orlando, the other is off of Osceola in Kissimee.

Which track will you be attending? If its Full Throttle Speedway, you will want a car that has a two speed due to the enormous size. If its any other, than you can get away with a 1 speed to start. Probably the best RTR out there is the Team Associated NTC3. Its a competition car right out of the box. It doesn't come with a two speed, so that might have to be added. The packages runs about 300.00 plus another 100.00 for accessories and 70.00 if u want the 2speed. so figure about 400.00 gets u going with a top notch car. CHEAP!

As for hobby shops in orlando - the best are Superior Hobbies in Casselberry, and Colonial Photo & Hobby in Mills Ave downtown. there are tons of others, but these are the best.

i dunno what its called, but the track ill be going to is behind charles schwab, across from the RDV sportsplex

i dont know of an on road track over there, must be a parking lot track. if so, the rtr NTC3 would be perfect.
