Aah, we have Micro fans here, I see :)

Being a Mod at YourMicro I obviously own some Micro RS4's, three to be exact.

Here's my CLK specs:

Penguin P3500LM PAN Chassis 150mm with:
Penguin P3501V Vertical Servo Mount upper deck
Penguin CF Servo Mount Plate
Penguin FG Centre Battery Mount Plate
Penguin rear deck with custom adapted coil/oil monoshock

Hitech HS81MG Servo (Vertical)
HPI Dual Link tie rod kit
Novak SPY ESC
Novak XXL RX 40MHz FM
Graupner Speed 300 motor (6V @ 7.2V)
Team Orion BB300 Motor Mount

HPI Ball-Diff with ceramic diff-balls
Losi thrust bearing conversion in right (diff) side wheel
GH front Ball-Diff II
Dry bearings all round
Alloy front pulley wheel
HPI Steel outdrives
HPI Steel Dogbones
Team Orion alloy steering knuckles

I use standard HPI wheels shimmed with O-Rings to prevent them pushing in and the inner wheel hubs are lightly sanded then painted with aerosol blackboard paint to prevent the friction fit wheels from coming loose.

The Bodyshell is a HPI Mercedes CLK done in metalic graphite with a matt black backing to darken the paint.

Wing is from the HPI Micro wing set, big but stylish and functional

A pic of it:

Micro's continued

All my Micro RS4's use 1100mAh NiMh BLiND Brick packs or Team Orion 7.2V packs. All packs are centre mounted with velcro on the Penguin Battery Mount plate. This allows me to move them back or forward for weight bias/balance tuning.

looks sweet, I almost got a micro for indoor winter fun, but I realized I wouldn't race, and that would really be most of the fun of a micro for me, so I took a pass. I do however appreciate what goes into those little suckers.

Looks kewl. Here's a little advice: When u need to add to ur post or thread go to the edit button on the bottom of the post box. I say this so no one else gives u any crap. Have any other pics?

Mustang

This is a dated pic of my second Micro, it's a Mustang Cobra with the following specifications:

Here's my CLK specs:

Penguin P3500 narrow Chassis 140mm with:
Penguin upper deck
Penguin FG Centre Battery Mount Plate
Penguin rear deck

Hitech HS81MG Servo
HPI Dual Link servo mount / tie rod kit
Novak SPY ESC
Futaba KR301F 40MHz FM RX
Team Orion Big Block 300 motor
Team Orion BB300 Motor Mount

HPI Ball-Diff with ceramic diff-balls
Losi thrust bearing conversion in right (diff) side wheel
GH front Ball-Diff (1st generation)
Dry bearings all round
HPI Steel outdrives
HPI Steel Dogbones
Team Orion alloy steering knuckles

Ignore the old AVM alloy wheels, they've been junked. As good as they look, they are anything but functional. The AVM Titanium rear diff shaft has also been junked.
Now I use standard HPI wheels shimmed with O-Rings just like the CLK.

Micro's continued

Micro #3 is under construction.
So far it consists of the following:

ARM FG Pan chassis, re-drilled to support HPI dual-link steering kit
Penguin upper and rear decks
LRP Quantum Micro ESC
Hitech HS81MG Servo
HPI Dual Link servo mount / tie rod kit
Novak XXL 40MHz FM RX
Team Orion Big Block 300 motor
Team Orion BB300 Motor Mount
HPI rear Ball-Diff
GH front Ball-Diff II
Team Orion bearing kit

I haven't decided on a bodyshell yet and I still need to get some odds and ends to complete it. The T-MAXX is consuming my summer :)

Here's a pic of the CLK and Mustang steering assemblies
More pics to follow once I dig them off my server or re-take them

Nice. I will be getting a micro very shortly and Since I've been shopping I've seen that almost every micro has the HS81 servo. Neato! Nice rims!

The Hitech HS81MG is probably the best value for money servo you can use on the Micro.
Other than being compact, its got pretty good torque and excellent turning speed.

Can I get my servo verticle on my Team Orion T power CRF chassis? I have the Hitec 81 servo but mine is not the metal gear as I saw no need in a micro. I have seen other people mount it verticle but I don't know how they did it. I have 2 holes in my chassis right where the front of the servo goes so I think I can. Do I need to buy a plate or something?

My Micro
Team Orion T power CRF chassis
Team Orion rear ball diff
Team Orion front one way
Team Orion BB motor
Novak Spy esc
JR R200 mini 2 channel RX
AE VCS Micro shock
Dynamite dogbones
Dynamite Micro battery pack 1100mah @ 7.2V
Team Orion Foam tires on chrome wheels and HPI Stock rubbers
and a few bodies you can go look in the body shop if you are interested.

BTW good to have you here Mondo!!

Micro Vertical Upper Decks

humboldtblazer,

It's fairly easy to achieve a vertical steering configuration, you just have to know where to buy the "ingredients"

The HS81 (non-MG) servo is fine, so no need to buy another servo, unless you drive as badly as I do and "require" a metal gear servo! :D

You will need the following parts:

Pengiun P3508 Mini-Servo Mount this will work on any chassis that has the three holes drilled just behind the steering assembly.

You will also require the Penguin P3501V (vertical mount) upper deck.
Although this does not appear on the Penguin RC website and price list, you can mail Brion Sohn of Penguin RC for price and availability. They are made to order and do not cost too much.
This upper deck is compatible with most Micro main chassis and rear decks.

You will also need the HPI dual-link steering kit. There are two versions, one comes with the alloy mounting plate, this is for horizontal servo mounting. You do not need this kit.

The kit you require only consists of the dual-link steering rods and micro servo saver.

You will need to trim the "ears" from the HS81 (as my previous photo shows) and use shoo goo to mount the servo to the P3508 mini servo mount.

It's as easy as that :) I hope this helps

Cat's eye view

humboldtblazer,

Here's a photo from another angle.
You can clearly see the P3501V upper deck and P3508 mini servo mount plate.
Note: You have to use the standard plastic front brace and cut the middle out. This does not affect the integrity of the suspension in any way.

The Full Monty

here's a pic of the entire P3500LM (Pan) chassis (the Micro CLK)
The rear shock is a custom adapted coil/oil Mini-Z shock.
It's great because it's threaded, I run it very soft and use it mainly for damping, as the Penguin chassis use a "roll-plate" rear suspension architecture. This uses variable thickness and material (FG & CF) roll plates to provide chassis roll and rar end suspension.

Penguin P3500 (Narrow)

Here's a pic of the Micro (Mustang) that uses the P3500 Narrow chassis.
No vertical mount upper deck on this one.
It's minus electronics in this shot as it's being re-fitted with a new RX.
