So I was having a bash with my Merv yesterday and noticed it started braking
Really heavy when I came off the throttle. Thought something was stuck around a drive shaft at first. Pulled the motor Off and that is where the problem is. Any ideas on what might cause it to tighten up? I'll be pulling it apart to see what's going on in the next day or 2. It's only about a month old. Put a dozen packs through it. I keep an eye on the temp and just put a heat sink on it.

The motor is whats tight as in the rotor barely turns even when the motor is out of the kit? If thats the case then Id say either a bearing seized/blew out or the magnets came unbonded from the rotor would be my first two guesses.

Yeh iv taken it off the car. I can turn it but it's not "free spinning" like it use to. I will take apart and hopefully I have a bearing to put back in it. Otherwise might need new motor or rebuild kit for the motor

When it's on the car it's like I'm applying the brake when I come off the throttle
It stops that hard

If it is the bearings can I use the rubber sealed bearing that come with the bearing kit for the wheels etc? Not sure what size they are and not sure if I have the same size

Well the problem is that the wire inside the Motor has failed and wrapped around the magnet. Didn't do any damage to the bearings so I'll be buying a new motor and I'll have a spare set of replacements.

prob, i have a heatsink on it tho ??? and i was running the slow gearing on it at the time? think i might get a fan hooked up and or get moving on my air vent I'm going to make through the window to direct air flow onto the motor/esc instead of just going over the top

call traxxas and see what they say first

I'm in australia, i can get a new motor (factory one) for less than 40$ delivered....

unless they can send me a new one and i just send them photos of the damages?

just emailed them asking what they can do. told them its not worth me sending one back as i can get a new motor for just as much

Either way the replacement goes I would invest in a small temp gun and make sure you keep tabs on your motor, ESC, and lipo temps from time to time, especially after making any changes to your set up.

^^Yep, spot on. I was warned about the MERV and temps, and it runs hot easily on high load surfaces like grass even with the lower of the two stock gearing options. I have a 55T spur I'm going to put on mine and try that.

If I remember correctly you haven't had it long at all have you? If you were on dirt, and geared properly, and the temps were within range, I'd give Traxxas a call. You may have just got a bad motor, it's rare from what I've heard, but nobodies perfect.

Hrmm. I'll see what they say back in the email. It's not worth sending it back when I can get a new motor delivere for 35$

I have to pay postage both ways.

Might send it if it's only 20$ return. But I sent a small box back to amain last week and cost me $17 one way

Might be worth it by $5 or something if they replace it for free. A spare motor would be nice.

And yeh. Stuff over here locally is double the price as amainhobbies. It's stupid. And they wonder why they don't make a lot of money. If they were a bit more competitive it wouldn't be so bad
